merc131 - several posts back (#12) you referred to getting a code for a fault on limit switch S84/23 (compartment cover closed).

According to the circuit diagram on post #1, this switch was only introduced by a design change from 06/2004, so your CLK should not have it.

This is a problem with WIS information. It can mislead if the dates are not observed carefully.

That is what the SDS said:
B1928: check Limit switch S84/13s or S84/23 (in short). So the /23 belongs to cars after june 2004. This car is from 2003, so limit switch S84/13s.
B1923: check limit switch S84/22.
That was what I understood of the codes. And probably my fault: these codes are coming from my CLK of which I mention problems first.

Later I mentioned the CLK from my friend, 6 months newer, of which I had to replace the hydraulic lines from the top to the pump (double line).
In my latest post I ask for help for this car about the soft top damaging the limit switch on the left and the pressure problem.

Thanks for all the info! Can someone tell me where I can find the soft top relay switch? Been having roof issues forever and have read ppl have replaced the relay switch with success! Hoping mine is that simple :surrender:

2004 clk500

Thanks!

It's on the pump motor.

good stuff here Thanks.

Where to purchase switch?

Is the dealer the only option when looking to buy a replacement for a s84-22 limit switch/sensor or whatever this weak piece of plastic called?

Thank you.

As far as I know, it is a dealer part. You can probably order it through parts.com at a discount (or print out their price and get your dealer to match it).

Now and then, it is helpful to bump a useful thread with short success stories. This is encouraging to others and to the OP, plus it helps the thread come up faster in search engines.

caperss, can you share with us which problem you may have solved?

Thanks for the info. The wiring diagram may be over my head. I did have the soft top fault codes read which indicated it could be one of three switches. Once he has established the faulty switch I hope to replace it myself. I'm looking for a video or instructions on how to find the switch. How do you get to the soft top control module?

If you have had the fault codes read, tell us the results. We can tell you where all the switches are. Also, there is info in the C209 forum Stickys on that topic.

The control module (N52) is shown on post #11 on this thread.

Any flashing lights in the car when you attempt the open sequence? Give any responses in your original thread.

I have recently noticed that my WIS has 2 slightly different circuit diagrams for the external wiring to N52 (ST control unit)

a) PE77.37-p-2102BA with CODE 881 RTC (remote trunk closing) dated 24/04/07.
This diagram only shows the 9 limit switches that are wired directly to N52. Therefore S84/11 & S84/18, which are routed via the CANbus are not shown.

b) PE77.39-u-2102BA dated 15/08/07.
This diagram does show S84/11 & S84/18, which are routed via the CANbus and it is attached below.

As a result of an increasing number of questions here about W209 cabriolet soft top operation problems, I have posted a full circuit diagram of the connections to the Soft Top Control Unit. (N52)

This should assist anyone looking at the operation of the many limit switches that control the open/close operation.

The diagram is supplied with a legend that defines every item that is routed to N52 via connectors. The limit switches all feed in via connector 1.

I have noted that generally one side (pin 1) of each limit switch is wired to earth (chassis) and the other side (pin 2) goes directly to N52. So it is staightforward to disconnect Connector 1 at N52 and then to use a test meter to measure continuity to earth from the relevant pin at N52 when manually operating the limit switch. This will confirm both a good earth connection, and also a good contact at the switch.

Note that there is also a change shown at date 06/2006 where S84/13 pin 3 is routed to N52 conn 1 pin 44 via the contacts of S84/23.

I hope it helps. :)

Note - please read my post #54 for an additional comment.
Keyhole, thanks for the diagram, I spent a fair bit of time pouring over it before realising (I think) that my SAM is a different model. It's the 2095451701 that integrates the N52 & N10/2 into a single unit mounted on on the left side of the trunk compartment next to the hydralic pump. I've searched the net and can't find a wiring diagram for this SAM. If I could see the connector detail, presumably the microswitches could be tested from the connector with a multimeter? Anyone got a diagram they can share?

The tools are nothing special. The one for unlocking the top at the windshield is just an Allen wrench. The straps are just flat nylon, about an inch wide. You could use anything strong enough that also fits between the closed trunk lid and soft top cover. And it does need to be strong - those hinges and the hydraulic struts will give a lot of resistance. You really do need to a helper because both hinges need to be pulled on simultaneously. If it just seems way too hard to pull, an alternative is to disconnect the hydraulic struts. Below is a diagram of what they look like with the cover open. With it closed, you have to look behind the carpeted panels on the side of the trunk. The blue arrow points at a clip you can snap away, then let it pivot on the green arrow, than the strut just comes loose.
Just today I tracked down a broken wire for the microswitch on the tonneau cover.
(* driver side under the chrome oval. The rear window engages this switch when closing the top)

Anyway, the wires run through the plastic piece just above the red arrow.
To remove that plastic piece, it appears there are two screws but they're not torx - they look like a special three pointed star tool. Similiar to a phillips, but instead of 'cross' shape, more like the MB star pattern?

Luckily, I didn't have to remove that plastic piece, but instead tracked the wire down to near the top pump and there a wire had split.

Maybe this thread is still alive. Im Hoping. I have a 2004 clk200 When im pressing the soft top button next to gearstick im getting nothing. No errors no window movement etc. I’ve checked fuse 28 and it’s fine (40amp) Checked all fuses in boot compartment Please help im going to go insane.

Welcome to the forum. Usually if there is an issue with the top a fault message will come up on the dash info screen. I would pop off the trim piece the switch is attached to and check the wiring and connector. Could be a bad switch also. I would also get the soft top module scanned to check for any codes. A fault in the soft top doesn't turn on the check engine light.

Thanks for the reply.
I’ve had the switch out and the wiring seems ok to it. It is making a switch but not sure if voltage is getting too it. There’s no messages coming up on the dash info screen.
I even tried to trick it and deliberately unlatched the roll bar in boot so switch isn’t made so that the error would come up. It didn’t. I’m getting nothing at all. It got scanned with afoxwell and nothing was present.

Welcome to the forum @weegirdy - please take a moment to read the information on the link below. Can your Foxwell read "actual values"? If so, do that for the
RBC (roll bar controller, a.k.a. top controller) and see if it will show the switch being actuated. If not, it's either a bad switch or a wiring issue between it and the RBC.
