So after selling the silver 280e, I was on the hunt again for my next W123.
Scanning through the web, I find a C123 230ce. I make the calls, get as much info and pics of the car as possible and get a mate to take the car for a test drive. This particular car was quite far from me around 1400km away from home so I couldn't check it out myself. From the pictures it looked great, and the friend who test drove it said it drove very well. Anyway, I decide "Thats it, this is my chance to own a coupe" and so I pay the owner and my mate ships the car up to me. Fast forward 4 days, I get to the docking yard, and as the car approaches, deep down I have this weird sense of anger and disappointment. I drive home not saying a word, and I know this feeling all to well.
I drive the car into my yard and then immediately start assessing the car. Within the first 2 mins I knew I was done in! I had bought a total lemon!!! Pictures surely lie. The previous owner said it was in prestine condition. I knew there was some rust in places, but didnt expect what I found. The interior needed a complete make over, the body needed a complete tear down, EVERYTHING that could be wrong cosmetically was wrong. On the up side, the engine and gearbox were in good nic and the car did in fact drive well.
I gave the a clean , interior and exterior and the more time I spent, the more problems I found. I was not looking for a project car, and this turned out to be exactly that. Actually, it was a car that needed a lot of time and a lot of money. I paid ZAR75 000 which equates to $5110. Which is a lot of moola for us South Africans. My heart sank when I seen the registration documents, the owner did not disclose that it was a CODE 3 (Rebuild). I contact him and he all of a sudden is defensive and just began being a total wiener. So I mark the car for sale, the next day a person who is looking for a project car, came to view he makes an offer of ZAR65 000/$4429 and I just let it go. I couldn't allow this to ruin my sanity. I disclose every issue found and the registration details etc. Which he understood and agreed it was disclosed, so he signs, pays and off he went and the poorer I've now become.
Lesson learnt, don't ever buy on excitement, rather spend extra to go view the car than lose more than you can afford.
Pic of what it looks like with photoshop filters and it being clean. (What I thought I bought)
Pics of what it actually revealed on inspection (And these are the nice pics. I have no energy to upload the rest of the crap)
