Fresh Paint

:grin

A step closer to where we want to be, the old girl had all the body work done and is in the assembly stage.

The heavily cracked dashboard was also repaired.

Once its assembled and ready to go, we will be taking it for a new exhaust system. Thereafter the work begins on the suspension, new carpets, windscreen and lastly the wheels

Almost there

It's difficult getting progress pics because the car is so far away. At this time I only have these.

Good news is it's full assembled, Engine bay was cleaned up it's standing on it's own wheels again. (The wheels in the pic are original Enkei 2 piece EK98, which we probably will use on another 123 once we refurb it)

We would have been done by now, however the panel beater is rather busy. We have asked him to do the following before we collect:

Light Smoke of rear tail lights
Give the grill a bit of a refresh and make it as close to the original grey as possible (it is a bit faded now)

Thereafter we taking it for the exhaust (and that hideous tail pipes will get chucked far away), and at the same time will put the AMG OZ Wheels and the H&R 35mm lowering kit.

Lastly it will go for the Ignition timing and overall tune before making it's way home.

We quite happy with how it has come out thus far. And hopefully before 9th March when we have our Monthly W123 Club meet.

On to the Silver 280

So to keep the momentum here, and after discovering some body work (Yes Rust) will be needed on the silver 280E. I've decided that I may as well play with it a bit as well. Nothing extreme though.

I've found a set of genuine Ronal R9 Wheels which does need a full refurb. This will be going to a mag wheel specialist within the next few days and when it is back, we will fit it to the silver 280E. Pic of the current condition and the other is the desire outcome.

Silver 280

If you have been following this thread

You should well know that I've been in a loop and had much of a headache trying to deal with figuring out what has been going on. My mech says it was the fuel pump relay and I'm sure as hell hoping that it is now sorted.

The car has had a major service while it was there too, so it should come back better than before.

Work completed:
New Spark Plugs
Oil
Oil Filter
Fuel Filter
Gearbox Filter
ATF
Engine & Radiator flushed
Coolant Anti Freeze top up

And he set the tappets for me, he mentioned that it was way too tight. I'll be collecting this evening.

I also have now a full W123 AMG body Kit but I'm in 2 minds of fitting it. Will see as we go along and how bad the itch becomes, but I really love this car in its original look, so I might just find another on to butcher.

Check the Pic of the silver 123 with the same wheels and body kit I have. And then there's a pic of the Silver 123 , our mint condition red 230 and my uncle's E63

Some pics

So I picked the silver 280e up on Saturday morning. The mech says he removed the fuel pump relay, cleaned it up a bit and soldered some contacts on the inside. Went for a 120km round trip and have had no issue at all. So i assume or well, I pray its sorted.

After the radiator flush the car runs a lot cooler too. I forgot what a pleasure it is to drive this car, and more so, forgot how thirsty it is. But lets hope its all good from here on out.

Back to the Red 280e

Exhaust is getting done at the moment , a mild steel free flow system
Lowering will be done this week and then its off to tuning

And after a year, it has come to the end of an era. I'm looking for a suitable replacement

So after selling the silver 280e, I was on the hunt again for my next W123.

Scanning through the web, I find a C123 230ce. I make the calls, get as much info and pics of the car as possible and get a mate to take the car for a test drive. This particular car was quite far from me around 1400km away from home so I couldn't check it out myself. From the pictures it looked great, and the friend who test drove it said it drove very well. Anyway, I decide "Thats it, this is my chance to own a coupe" and so I pay the owner and my mate ships the car up to me. Fast forward 4 days, I get to the docking yard, and as the car approaches, deep down I have this weird sense of anger and disappointment. I drive home not saying a word, and I know this feeling all to well.

I drive the car into my yard and then immediately start assessing the car. Within the first 2 mins I knew I was done in! I had bought a total lemon!!! Pictures surely lie. The previous owner said it was in prestine condition. I knew there was some rust in places, but didnt expect what I found. The interior needed a complete make over, the body needed a complete tear down, EVERYTHING that could be wrong cosmetically was wrong. On the up side, the engine and gearbox were in good nic and the car did in fact drive well.

I gave the a clean , interior and exterior and the more time I spent, the more problems I found. I was not looking for a project car, and this turned out to be exactly that. Actually, it was a car that needed a lot of time and a lot of money. I paid ZAR75 000 which equates to $5110. Which is a lot of moola for us South Africans. My heart sank when I seen the registration documents, the owner did not disclose that it was a CODE 3 (Rebuild). I contact him and he all of a sudden is defensive and just began being a total wiener. So I mark the car for sale, the next day a person who is looking for a project car, came to view he makes an offer of ZAR65 000/$4429 and I just let it go. I couldn't allow this to ruin my sanity. I disclose every issue found and the registration details etc. Which he understood and agreed it was disclosed, so he signs, pays and off he went and the poorer I've now become.

Lesson learnt, don't ever buy on excitement, rather spend extra to go view the car than lose more than you can afford.

Pic of what it looks like with photoshop filters and it being clean. (What I thought I bought)
