Wheel fitment help

Hello all, first post...will do an introduction once I pick up my 93 S500SEL in a few days. First off, the wheels have to go. I am looking for something with a little more pop; and stay factory. I found these locally, I like the 5 star pattern and would like to retain that look although there are a few different versions I like.Would any of you be so kind to verify for me that these will fit on my car?
The German car is totally new to me so I have lots to learn...

Looks like there are 225/45/17 tires on the wheels now. Seem like the tires could be a little small, what can I get away with?

Thanks so much!

1. For 17 you should run 50series tires.
2. check if the lug holes fit a 14mm lugbolt (W140 bolts are bigger than the C and E class)
3. check the backspacing of the wheels if it clears the brakes for the lugs. Depending on wheel design you might need to get shorter or longer bolts

Need some advice on recommended tires

Hi guys,

So I am weaving through the Tirerack user recommendations and I am trying to figure out what would be a good replacement tire for my current tires. The ones I have are wearing out and I think they get flat spots over night. Feels like I need a wheel balancing when I start out and then it kinda goes away.

In any event - the W140 is heavy and my 600 SEL is even more heavy :). Do any of you have any recommendations for a good 18 inch tire? I am not racing around and I like low road noise - I don't even mind the snow tires that I have on 16 inch rims. I was thinking of picking up a set of stock 16 S class rims and going with that.

This is what I have on it now - P245/45 R18

Any thoughts or feedback?

Cheers,

Eric

C140 wheels and tires

Three years ago I "tripped over" an absolutely like new 97 S500coupe - original owner - Black/Black - 89,000 miles - complete service history. This car had been stored indoors it's entire life and professionally detailed every six months. I had a new S500 sedan back in the mid 1990's so to me this was like a time warp. It had the original six holes aluminum alloy 16" wheels and a set of brand new Michelin Primacy tires. I spent the first year I owned the car hell bent on finding a set of 18 wheels and tires. I lost track of how many mikes I drove checking out wheel and tire listings on Craigslist. After almost settling for a few sets of less than perfect wheels I sat down and did an honest evaluation of my priorities. In the end I bought a set of like new chrome wheels designed for a W220. Perfect fit and I was able to use my Michelin tires. The original wheels are in my shop in the box "just in case" I ever decide to sell the car (doubtful). It looks great and it rides like a dream. On top of that I located the new wheels at a chrome shop in Los Angeles - they had ordered the wheels for a customer who never picked them up. As I recall they only cost me $500 plus installation. Sometimes the best solution is right under your nose.

Urgently require AMG alloy 18 inch part number A1404010102 ,5 slot type refinished or not. I have just had one go and my car is grounded until I find a replacement. The wheel is for a 1998 W140 CL 600 . Help cannot find one anywhere!

I'm planning on getting Rotiform IND wheels.

The sizes are 8,5X19 ET45 front and 10X19 ET35 rear.

Tyres would be 255/40 in the front and 285/35 in the rear.

Lowered with H&R springs.

Will it fit?

Front should be good.

Rears Ive done both with 9.5/ET35 and 10/ET40ish and it was nowhere near rubbing. However that was on factory springs.

he has it in his profile - '98 S300 diesel. We all have the same 16x7.5 ET51 as factory size, don't we?
Well the short of it is that I don't think anyone in the know would recommend a tire wheel combo that is more than 1 inch taller. I know that rule very well. Still I increased my wheel size by 3 inches. The loss of dampening that the cushier tires gave blew out the rear shocks and the wheel rub in the front, which everyone said it would not, has caused the driver side sway bar mount to fail.

Long term effect of wheel size change is detrimental to the suspension components.

In other words, the added cost of the wheels for vanity sake will also cost you more in the end.

So... no problems then, since so many W140's came stock with the 18" wheels over here, going 19" I'm just raising 1 inch in size. :p

Wow! Yeah my 140 came stock with 16 inches and 60 profile. Same as my 129.

Just to be sure I would double check the shock and spring ratios. Maybe you have an entirely different suspension than we have state side?

Don't believe so, since the part numbers are the same.

You must not forget that what kills suspension components in these cars is their wheight. I'm with the original 16" and have replaced more rubber in the suspension than the one that exists in an S&M party...
