Hi all, any thoughts on what is the best color on a R129? Is it just me or is one out of three R129 black or white?

Which brings the best of the car? I would have made this a poll but considering the variety of options available, I thought better of it!

For some season white just doesn't pop on the R129. I drive a silver one and think it looks perfect. Until I saw a '99-'01?? go by in that Merlot or deep burgundy color, chrome AMG monoblocks, with a black interior. I liked it so much I had to snap a picture as it went by.

Heres my tipple silver, next to the campaign silver color

You mean like mine:rolleyes:
That color is officially 572 Ruby Red metallic.

The grey top looks sexy, no doubt. But when it comes time to replace the soft top I'm going with a black one. You would not believe how hard it is to keep a light grey soft top clean and free of bird droppings, tree sap, and various grime & oils that fly off big trucks and cars when you drive.

I am pretty partial to my black exterior and tan interior, chrome mono-blocks. That is until a lady friend of mine bought a 99 out of Florida.

It is deep burgundy with tan top and tan interior. Wow!

I like RED with black interior. Just what my SL500 is!

Black is great, but I could never keep it clean enough

White with black top (my SL320) is the classiest looking IMO

Silver is great, only because to me it seems to be the classic Mercedes color.

Only ones I am not a fan of is the "two tone" jobies. To each his own I guess :)

Mine is black-on-black, but I happen to like brilliant silver-on-black far more. After that, it'd have to be anthracite, dark blue, and dark green. I saw an earlier 129 in a mocha or copper color that was rather attractive, as well as a car in Bornite pearl that I considered at one point.

I've seen a fair number of 129s in teal, turquoise, and spruce/seafoam, and those colors don't really float my boat. I'm not much a fan of red or white either, but at least they're fairly sober colors that work on the car. There is a shade of red--a dark crimson--that looks really nice on a 129 that's in the neighborhood. It'd look better with a black interior than the palomino it has now.

I don't particularly care for the blue and burgundy interiors one encounters from time to time on the earlier 129s. The "neutral" colors--black, parchment, brown/tan/palomino, and grey, are best for the interiors.

I was set on a 1996 silver SL 320 with grey interior and black top. Wife found the white 1999 SL 500 / SL-2 with grey interior and black top. I told her it looked a bit lifeless on the computer, needed a pin stripe or something, and then....where does the plastic stop and the metal start ?

Went to see the white one. The body contours show up in the reflections off the paint's gloss finish. It floated my boat, plus its cool to the touch, won't fade or shed its clear coat, and is easy to see when someone is chaning lanes.

Although I have a triple black car there are more than several metallic cars that I like as well as a 582 Imperial Red with a Black interior and Mike's SL7.3 Brabus for many reasons to include his 586 Magma Red.

As usual, Mike comes out of the woodwork and blows away the competition. I have to say, the pano certainly tops it off. (Couldn't help myself.) Good to hear from you M & M, and see great pics.

I think, as others have mentioned, your own combo has a good chance of being one of your favorites. (Black over ash on mine.) Otherwise, we probably wouldn't have bought them. We're all winners....group hug. Fun thread guys.

I realize that I am predjudiced but I bought my SA online and had never seen one in person. From the pics I knew it was pretty but had no idea just how much until I actually saw it in person. I can't really describe it but I could not be happier!

My SL320 is black and, although it's the prettiest car on the block when clean, I would not have another one. It just plain SHOWS EVERYTHING! If you own a black car birds are the devil!
