Real W126 AMG wheels Q. Conical or Ball Seat Lugnut?

Interestingly I haven't been able to find an answer to this with a search.

So quick question for those that know - I got a set of AMG 17" Monoblock w126 wheels, and I'm curious if they use a Ball-seat or Conical-seat lug nut.

My current Mercedes wheels have conical seats, so I have a nice set of lugs. But I've never seen a ball-seat wheel before so I'm not sure if I'd notice and didn't want to damage anything.

If anyone knows, or has a good way to tell, LMK (wheels aren't hear yet so I want to be prepared)

Thanks!

The period AMG offerings are BALL seat.. AND the bolt length is critical so as not to foul the emergency brake mechanism in the rear or bottom out the tip threads in the fronts...

After an unfortunate false start two weeks ago, I just fitted 17" Aero 1 wheels onto my SEC. Love 'em!

AMG Aero 1 wheels take shorter bolts than the AMG Aero 2 wheels. Aero 2s take stock length without issue... not the case with the earlier ones.. I bought these.

Stock is too long.. I know this from recent personal experience... :/

Here is the Aero 1 Fitting Manual should you need the detail....

Enjoy,

I will agree since almost all MB and AMG wheels I've seen use ball seat lugs. The few I've encountered that used conical lugs are:

- Lorinser LO (made by rial I believe)
- momo 5-star
- fittipaldi OZ 3 piece
- MSW / OZ Ceres

I honestly can't think of any other cone seat wheels I've seen in the last 7-8 years of my addiction.

AMG monoblocks are all ballseat (in fact all AMG's are ballseat)
The AMG E55 W120 (18" diameter) take a 39mm threaded shank/ max 72mm total length.
The AMG penta takes a 27-28mm threaded shank
The AMG 3 piece take a 39mm threaded shank (you can't use standard MB 95mm long bolts on the front as too long - 85mm max in total length / rear max length 72mm)
Don't forget 12mm x 1.5 pitch (later model rims went to 14mm shaft)
see link below for pics

The main issue is the max thread length poking out the back of the rear rim is 15mm which you can easily check with the rim off and then cut any excess length off if the thread is too long

When you get the wheels take them to ACHTUNING in Redmond, WA. They stock nearly every version and length of lugs for Mercedes, Audi etc. A set of 20 will cost you about $45. Cheaper than any mail order vendor. They are a professional outfit and really great people. Their prices on H&R spacers are the lowest in USA if you need any. I buy all my lugs from them. Mike

For info so do these guys based in CA (ezAccessory.com owned by "E Century, Inc.")
I have been buying direct from them for many years - top quality and well priced
They sell any lug bolt required for an MB and high grade spacers/adaptors made for MB spec
