Actually it is identical to the original and can be done by yourself or if you like you can take it to an upholstery shop and have them do it for you.

 

No disrespect meant to our sales-related friends but I would definitely recommend having an expert fit. It's one of those things that looks very easy to do when you watch someone but the devil's own job to do oneself.

The thigh edging had begun to look a little sad on my SL500'96 car so I took it to a local upholsterer who stripped out seats, unpeeled the covers and re-packed the foam beneath. When he had finished they looked like brand new and were supportive. I am DIY minded but some things are best left to experts I think.

For your info in Hong Kong they will charge about US$700 to US1,000 to re-upholster your entire car c/w door panels in very good quality perforated M-Benz style leather. They are the only company I know who does it hence they have a captive market therefore are no doubt charging premium rates. Also without wanting to sound xenophobic, one normally tends to pay a slightly inflated 'non-local' rate if you turn up with a nice car for work. They are good guys though and I would definitely recommend them to anyone in the neighbourhood.

Oh I'm sure thats lovely in real life..but looking at the picture, I'm going to throw up. It's like a snake between the legs when you sit on the seat.

I ordered new leather replacement MB seat covers from GAHH Inc. Could not be happier with the quality and the service. Have had them installed by a very good professional here and it is impossible to tell them from a new vehicle! Even has that new car smell. The person that I dealt with at GAHH sent me samples which helped me to get the right color. I might suggest that you do the same. It helps quite a bit in selecting the proper color. This is hard to do from only a printed picture, even on a good computer screen.

They look very nice and well made with thick leather but unfortunately are only suitable for the pre facelifted cars.

I would give them a go once I confirm it's real leather.

Some of you saw my seats at the Irvine gathering early this month. John buys the leather from Germany. It is OEM. He has the patterns fed into his computerized machines. They were as close to perfect as you can make them. At the time, I paid $650 for the complete set, including head rests.

John has a guy two blocks from his shop who installed them for $400. The installer works almost exclusively on high end German cars. He also does custom work for hot rods or complete restorations on collectors. I was in his shop at 7 am and out by 10:30, including BS'ing and coffee breaks.

You can try installing the covers yourself, but I definitely DO NOT recommend it. Believe me, I tried. :surrender: Four hours on one seat bottom and I had it looking like I bought it off the shelf in Pep Boys. Go with a professional.
