How to Replace Windshield Washer Pump?

It looks like the Windshield Washer Pump is bad on my '96 SL600. I have checked for power on the wire going to the pump with a Test Light and it lights up when I push the button inside, but I can't hear the pump running. I would also like some suggestions on a source for the pump. Parts.com has a "Call for Pricing" listed for it. It looks like they are relatively inexpensive by searching Ebay. I am going to try the local Parts Stores like NAPA and Autozone while I am in town tomorrow.

What is the proceedure to change the pump and what should I look out for? I have searched the forum and found several posts on the "cocktail" of Vinegar, dish washing soap & distilled water. Thanks~

The pump is easy to replace. After lifting washer tank up enough, disconnect electrical plug and pull pump up out of its grommet. Then remove pump from water line. When purchasing new pump also get a new grommet. Take care attaching the water line as this is fairly delicate on the pump.
AutohausAZ amongst others is a good source for pump and grommet.

I bought a New Windshield Washer Pump from the local MB dealer ($40) and brought it home to install, and it looks like the previous owner (or a Shop that she took it to) had cut the original Electrical Connector off and spliced in a different plug for a different pump. The pump that I bought from the dealer has 2 Round Connectors and the pump that came off of my car has 2 Flat Blade Connectors. Who Does This Crap????????

Yep. NAPA Counter Guy says it's a Universal Pump. Now I need to find a way to get the correct factory connector on about an 8" pigtail. If anyone has or knows of a parts car they would sell one off of, let me know. I don't know if the dealer or parts.com would have it.

Check you wiring harness in that area. May be your car is already pre-wired for headlight washer pump as I assume MB was not going to produce several wiring harnesses for the R129 which is limited production cars. If the plug is there then you can just borrow it.

Please see my 2000 Windshield Washer Pump that has 2 blade-type connectors.

What was the outcome of your Pump install?
What p/n did you end up with for the Windshield Washer Pump?
Did the pump end up having 2 blade-type connectors?
Did you test your 3-Way Check Valve for functionality?
Anything else learned besides your Pump connector problem?

Thanks, Lynn

What was the outcome of your Pump install? Works Great
What p/n did you end up with for the Windshield Washer Pump? I will have to check tomorrow
Did the pump end up having 2 blade-type connectors?
Did you test your 3-Way Check Valve for functionality? I don't remember, I don't think so, but everything worked well
Anything else learned besides your Pump connector problem? I removed the Washer Fluid Reservoir and soaked it in Hot Water & Soap and cleaned it really well.

Thanks, Lynn
I will have to go back and check everything, I can't remember what I did. I think that I installed the aftermarket pump, but I will check
