Is alibaba the only place to find a om662 are they legit.
You're unlikely to find a 662 anywhere near NA. The good news is that just about any inline MB engine made from the mid-'80's until the '00's will bolt right up, but I'd keep an eye out for a 602, 603 or 606. Try car-part.com or Potomac.

There are a few other web sites that do similar B to B with escrow but for international trade Alibaba is the best. Count on about $1000 for the engine and another $1000 for shipping anywhere in the US. The engines are used and most were manufactured between 1999 and 2005. Try to find a seller in South Korea because these will have the lowest mileage. The engine was built in both turbo and non turbo form.

If you're feeling really adventurous look for a 2.9L OM602 in europe off a W210 E290 but I suspect this IP is more compex than the Musso.

7 Ways to Get Scammed on Alibaba

Me thinks you would be better buying a whole car in the US that you can touch and feel for $1-$2k.

Wonder how much a pain the ass is to make this engine work in my chassis.
From what I can tell, they use a completely different sump (and oil pump, I assume), intake, and peripheral mounts. Seems like the makings of an interesting project, if you have a ton of time and spare parts lying around. I think you'd have a far easier and cheaper route if you just located a good 60X engine here in the US.

That second vid shows an engine with a ton of custom tweaks. I'd love to get my hands on one, but that would make for some rather costly experimentation, vs just using what we have readily available over here.

Thank you again. I decieded if im going to spend over 5k in this I will save up the rest and do a 5.3L V8 swap with a cam. I can do that for under 10k and have the horse power and torque im looking for. So be on the look out for updates, and 2014 will be a fun year for the 300D.

I could build you up a nice 60X engine for less than that, and it would put most V8s to shame, while still giving diesel fuel efficiency. I'm pretty sure most V8 options will require significant cross-member mods. I've always thought a built Buick/Rover 215 V8 would be a fun little install in a 124

Cool, good luck with the project. That engine is a perfect fit for the 124. I might go the same route in a couple of years when gasoline gets stupid cheap again in a couple of years.

Jap chains on 91 and up were known to break. Then vac pumps are problems on all the 602s IIRC.

Vacuum pump problems can always be an issue with any MB, but is the most destructive on the W124 diesels.

That's why I stick to just replacing the pump outright every 100-150K max. A sub $400 pump is far easier on the wallet than a new engine.

Did you go through the M119 V8 Coupe upgrade thread ?

That is a beautiful job, needs mods but still has the Merc M119 installed.

But whats the point? The small block will give you more power, better fuel economy, more aftermarket support and less weight in a smaller package. Besides you can just buy a 400e.
Because then you have a great car that's using ancient overhead valve engine technology that runs out of breath after 4500rpm. The W124 chassis will outlive the Chevy engine 3:1.

My 02 Z28 i reved to 6,800 with a huge .600/.608 cam, over 100 paases down the track, plus all the street racing I did. The LS1 never let me down.
