Your best bet is to look at the EPC with the original VIN of the car and then look through special category and see what's different from regular M103.

Unfortunately these engines are so rare that very little information is known about them....and I doubt AMG has records dating that far back...and even if they do, they aren't sharing.

That or most of the AMG technicians/engineers who came up/install these are probably dead by now.

Thanks! It is clear there is no that much expertize in such engine. Thant is why I will appreciate any view here.
There were some members in this thread, who could give advice - some of them even had and parted out this engine. But it was 10 years back....

This tread has been very good info of the 3.6AMG, I'm also starting to build one for my old timer.
I now have 2.8 with stand alone Ecu so it will be easy swap.

But there is one problem, I dont know the timing mark on the timing chain, can someone help??

I have read all over the web and there is 2-3 different ideas of the marks.

Is the Mertrux, Homepage | Derby, Nottingham & Leicester | Mertrux still good for AMG 3.6 engine know how??

Thanks guys for good info :)

Timing mark is identical to C280. Everything that you do on C280 to set the timing is the exactly same on C36.

What I have read, the timing is not the same on 3.6 AMG.
Because some people say its the same, some say its not and that there is some AMG markings on the exhaust wheel.

So can somebody say for 100% sure the right way of making the timing correct??

I have a 3.6 AMG that I removed from C36 and did head gasket, and timed it and everything. I'm telling you, it's identical. The intake camshaft is AMG and is different from the original one, but the markings are identical.

I must've done something right, because the engine has 8k since the head job and I've abused the car from day 1.

Ok, but heres some other info: Double checking the 3.6 cam timing

So I really dont know what instructions to follow.

So people have done 3 different adjustments on the timing and they all are saying that the car works well.

This is little bit weird but maybe someday I will find the right "path" 😎

Hmmm, my car has no codes, no misfiring, rock steady idle and has full power. Plus it is matching the 0-60 in official documentation (6.5-6.6). And I set it up exactly like E320.

I will have to look in WIS tomorrow to see the exact procedure.

Ok, but the WIS does not have info for the M104 3.6 AMG engine.

Also other people say that they have full power and the car is working well.

Well anyway the timing would be almost there, just tooth away or something like that.

Heres also one info:

The reason they say eksept AMG en gives is due to the modified cam with the "U" marking. That are used instead og the regular dowel holes. Other than that. The procedure is the eksact same. 4mm pins into the "U" dowel holes and do the same thing

Since when? I was able to buy HWA headgasket in 2018, and they told me there were 3 left.

Ok, so is there U mark on both cams??

Earlier I have read that only exhaust has U mark.
