Good morning ALL.
I am new to this forum but optimistic I can get guidance from experts thru here.
I have an issue with my ML. My airmatic system has been acting funny lately. I've replaced all air struts (front and back) but the passenger front still rides low.
I read about the relay going bad after some time so I decided to replace it. The mistake I made was...I inserted a wrong relay into the spot (a relay with 6 prongs as the green one there...the one I inserted was black and not even sure where I got it from).
Immediately I inserted the relay I smelt something coming from the fuse box there. I quickly removed it and inserted the old one back. I went to start the car, the car will start every time, revs up but cuts off immediately right when the idle is about to drop down. I went to the fuse box and inspected all the fuses, all were fine. Inspected all the fuses in the trunk, all were fine.
I now called Mercedes to schedule an appt for diagnosis. I explained what had happened to the tech, the first thing he asked me was "did you do anything to the fuel pump relay?" The answer is NO unless the airmatic replay has something to do with the fuel pump.
Anyway, did he just give me a clue that could save me money and the trouble of towing the car to the dealership? Did I fry the fuel pump relay? Is it located under the hood near the airmatic relay?
Can anyone guide me to where the fuel pump relay is located and it's exact location?

Thank you.

The fuse pump relay and fuse are located (as stated previously) in the right rear load compartment fuse/relay box.

If you did not transfer and relay or fuse in that location, then that is not your problem.

Take a photo of where the relay was and what relay you removed and what relay you swapped it with.

Hey Guys, My '06 ML500 decided not start in the morning today. It was weird since last night it was totally fine. I cranked it up and it tried but not start. I did that like 10 times but fearing that I might eat out the battery or fry the starter I decided not try again. I fine tuned my ear and noticed that upon ignition the fuel pump sound was missing. Came here, searched for the fuel pump location (because of all the freaking cars that I've owned this is the one that doesn't have a fuse diagram! :-S ) checked it up on the car and and Voila! the stupid 20amp fuse was broken. Slipped in the replacement and good as new!

Thanks for the picture with the location, once again my car is running thanks to you guys!

Cheers!!!

I have a ml320 cdi, mine stops after 3seconds, and it smells like something is blown in my fusebox, so thats why i want to ask benzomi what fixed his problem, maybe it is some wrong with mine relay, because my air suspension play wierd right before my car stops.

I try to search for what can cause that my engine will not run.

I liftet my car om the highest offroad-level, and when i pusth the button for lowering the car, nothing happend, (when the engine idle ofcourse).

Then i just turn of the engine, the next time i tried to start, the engine stops after about 3seconds, right before the engine dies the glow-light in the dash lights. Less than 1second, i can turn ignition off and rhen do the same, still dies after 3 second every time, when i opened the fusebox, i could smell that something electric har burned, and i feel that it came from the green hella relay tha suposed are for the suspension.

" The circle is now complete. When I left you I was but the learner. Now, I am the master! " If you're chasing down a no start , reference what I did to get back on the road again : https://www.benzworld.org/forums/w164-m-class/3012836-06-ml500-cranks-no-start.html

I place it in this thread as there was some speculation that Airmatic and Fuel Pump have some relationship - well there is a FUSE 53 that is common to both - explained in the ref thread.... good luck !
