Wipers Stopped and a few others

Thanks to the forum, there is a lot of great sharing of information.

I have a 2007 ML350. 4 things happened at once that I am trying to debug.

Both the front and rear wipers stopped working

The SRS light came on

The glove box light went out

The front tray cigar lighter quit but is still illuminated at night.

The window washers work. I wouldn't think the wiper motors would go bad. I've found the fuse chart and looked at all the fuses for these items and they all check out good. I've swapped a couple of relay packs around (yes of the same part #) hoping I could move the problem but I don't have a relay chart to go by and with so many fuse locations it would be a crap shoot to figure out.

So I'm looking for anything possibly stupid that I don't know about to debug this issue. I did jiggle a probe into the seat belt sockets and the srs light and others problems remain.

I remain hopeful that this may be something simple. Thanks in advance for your help.

did you check voltage? weak battery can do this. the relay is located front right passenger side. its the yellow relay. if your in front of the car its the bottom left yellow

Thank you so much for the helpful information. The battery actually died 2 months ago - it was the original one and the dealer installed a new one at that point. I have not checked the voltage because the battery is new but I will look under the hood again on the passenger side at the relay you mentioned to see if that might be the culprit.

Thanks again...

I have included a few pictures below

the engine compartment fuse panel - I swapped the two green relays and the wipers still don't work.

I am including a shot of the rear fuse panel in case I need something in there

I am wondering if the other picture is of the negative ground or would that be located someplace else.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you - I did swap the yellow relays last night and no luck, I was hoping by doing that that the problem moved someplace else.

I'm going to buy a circuit tester and test each fuse for power on each side of them. Someone mentioned that a completely different and non related fuse could be blown and causing a problem with another circuit.

Wish me luck, still open to all ideas..

Thanks in advance.

I am having the same issue. Wife stated her phone wouldn't charge so I checked the 12v passenger outlet. No power. Fuse is good. Checked all other 12v outlets (rear seat, back) and all are dead. All fuses are good. Checked for power at the fuse panel for the fuses and no power. Checked the fuse for the rear washer (good), and it had no power. This led me to the front windshield wipers and found they are not working. Fuses good. But, here's what I've found. The fuse panel for the wiper fuses do not light my voltage tester when the alligator clip is grounded. When the clip is on a hot connection and I put the tip in the fuse slot, it lights. Does this mean that circuit is grounded out? Is there a common relay or control unit that the wipers and 12v outlets share? ANY ideas or help in the right direction would be grateful.

I'm glad (well not for you) that someone else is having a similar problems - perhaps some others can jump in here with some ideas to try so we can get this working, please update me if you find anything. I will be testing the fuses this morning as well. Both with the key out and with the key on. Someone mentioned resetting the electrical system but I don't know how to do that.

INFORMATION UPDATE - NEED INFO PLEASE

I tested all fuses with a circuit tester - the following fuses have no power

100 - front wipers

46 - cigar lighter

50 - rear wiper

59 - head restraints

60 - front wipers and glove box light

61 - airbag

THESE ARE ALL THE ITEMS THAT ARE NOT WORKING ON THE ML350

What am I looking at - Relays? I don't feel anything click when i tun on the wipers.

I need a clue - can anyone advise me?

thanks in advance.

Hey. I had posted with very similar issues. I'm at a loss. I have dead fuses but when testing, my front windshield wiper fuse will light up my test light when the alligator clip is attached to a positive lead. I wish I had a schematic of the wiper harness. Any luck with your issues?

That is because the vehicle is a 12volt negative grounded system. When you hook the test light up to the negative ground and touch the fuse, if there is electricity at the fuse the test light will light up telling you that side of the circuit has power. When you connect the light to the positive terminal all you are doing is turning it on with electricity from the probe. Don't do that because you could short something out and if the probe hit some other grounded metal in the car it would complete a circuit and possibly weld something together. I hope you can understand my explanation.

Just went through a similar problem, here are some tips. For me, it was the front fuse / relay box yellow relays that were replaced to solve the issue. We replaced the rear grey ones just on the principle that they were the same age. In series fuses were checked for continuity before ordering parts (which are inexpensive on parts geek, pelican, etc.) Relay numbers on photos - order two of each variety. Be careful while inside the front fuse / relay box - the red power lead is electrically hot.
