Both of my cars are on the driver's side!

I would rather it start on that side.
But I guess you need the wife to start on the side you drive from.

On a left hand drive car yes.

 

hahahaha. Neat. This is unusual. Perhaps keep it that way if it works fine. Little less obstruction for the driver.

My uk W124 is under the drivers side of the screen . And i would have thought beeing lefthand drive in usa it would be under your side of the screen on the left hand side . Dont tell me that the both sit on the right .

 

Jason if you think it was on the left hand side under your side of the screen, then your right mate its on the wrong way around . Wiper body is on the same side as steering wheel .With the blade sitting on passengers side at rest.

 

It is just that wiper motor has come to rest in the wrong place .

 

Wonder how they did that? Don't you just flip a lever and slide wiper off the hook to change?

 

The wiper motor assembly must be removed to change the windshield. I would return the car to the installer and have them correct the problem. I'd also insist they warranty their work.

It's been a very difficult month for me. I was hospitalized for 4 days at the end of May while my wife and I were at our summer home. I only got worse, so we returned to our Florida home and..here I am again in the hospital.

Blockage in the small intestine. I've lost 25 lbs in 4 weeks and weigh under 150 now. Less than I did in the 6th grade - almost 60 yrs ago. Being discharged tomorrow and will be on the gain weight train for a while.

Monowiper cars like the W124 generally have the wiper rest on the drivers side. This ensures that in a sudden deluge etc, as soon as you activate the wipers the wiper immediately clears the drivers side, ensuring good line of vision. It's a safety feature we never really think about.

Jason said window wiper , and not the screen Jason is that mono wiper the one that came off your car ?.if so the wiper was replaced wrong .

 

Is it possible to replace it wrong? I have my doubts. I think it's a right hand drive wiper assembly.

 

Well it would make sense to design it so that it can rest either way. That way LHD/RHD would not need different parts. Perhaps it is an option in the installation?
Like some kind of switch to tell the system when to stop?

I have had a 124/201 for 31 years straight now and never had to open up the wiper driver so I have no idea how the mechanics of it work, I just think they are cool.

Could you just (for example) put the red wire in the black spot and the black wire in the red spot? Bam! backwards operation?

 

as it set up, it's stopping on the right side. It should be stopping on the left side which would be with the crank arm 180° the other way and then it would be turning the other direction first so that the arm would go across and then back. The only way I see it could be the way it is, is either it is a right-hand motor, or it was misassembled with a crank 180 out of phase and the motor wired backwards. Hard to say. does the wiper properly extend in the corners and retract as it goes across the middle and then extend in the other corner and then retract as it goes down?

 

This article should provide the info you require, but ultimately the "MB Mechanic" should correct the problem.

 

I completely refurbished my MonoWiper a few months ago, and learned that you can easily change the starting position with slightly different assembly. Some race car drivers have them in the middle of the windshield on purpose.
This can be done by loosening the nut no. 6 in this image, repositioning the mechanism and tightening the nut back again.
