I believe it's just a naming convention that changed by the model year.

 

Exactly. Mercedes at a certain point, I recall on 1992 "invented" the classes so they changed the naming system.
Actually the only difference is . . . the age of the car.

They just changed the model naming scheme in '94. The car was the same.

 

Correct 90-93 were 500SL and 94-02 were SL500. In 96-02 the car got a 5 speed trans. In 99-02 it got an M113 engine.

The older 500SL's came with mechanical fuel injection, and the ECU can't be modified with "upgraded chips". :crybaby2:

Well that is a good question!
My SL is a 1991 from japan and as the digital odometer. That's all i know about that.
