What do you think is the most underrated Mercedes? I just wanted to see other Merc's you feel are on the forgotten list.

Please post pics.

My 500 SLC is highly underrated.

To be under-rated, it has to be a popular car but not spoken much of? Or a hard to find car? Which would then simple be "rare" cars? How do we play this game?

Here are some random rare cars that i think are under-rated, i think.

W201 190E 2.5-16 Cosworth

- DTM track champion, and German Touring Car Champion
- The most over engineered Mercedes-Benz

W123 500CE
- Very rare, they only made 13 i think, only custom builds

W140 600SEL
- Big daddy V12, redefined luxury saloon in 1992

W202 C36 AMG
- The first AMG by Daimler Benz

Posting on a public internet forum and only expecting "nice" comments . . . a bit unrealistic.

Most Mercedes 4 door sedans are generally "under rated" when it comes to either resale value or "classic" status. The ones that fare the best are the roadsters and limited production models, but even those go through a roughly 30 year decline before any uptick in interest or prices.

In the US, diesels have suffered historically, due to our view of the smoky oil burners and the relatively low horsepower of some models.

What is a good for me thing. I bough the 2005 E320cdi for about 40% of original price.
My friends going with us for New Year ball took the 4-years old car with 146,000 miles for a brand new one. On return trip they've been surprised to learn it is diesel.
So IMHO the 6.x second , 40mpg 320cdi is the most underrated.

The W201 2.0 ltr 190E, overshadowed by all its cousins the 2.3, 2.316vlvs, 2.6 6cyl, 2.516vlvs, is as well made as the others, with same body and chassis.

It is much less stressed than the others in the 201 family therefore will last a long long time. It was over engineered by MB's own admission and took all of US$ 500 million in late '70s money to develop.

Finally the 16 valvers were just add ons to take on the M3, therefore my vote goes to the humble W201 2.0ltr as one of the most underrated MBs.
