Thank you Mac for your quick comment! Unfortunately it´s not a fuse. There are three fuses involved in the control of the tailgate. All of them are OK.

 

As I understand, the motor is in the dampers, not like older models with hydraulic cylinders.

Does the latch work properly? Does it close by it self the last 1 to 1,5cm? It could be if the latch does not give the "open" signal that the lift gate will not be allowed to start the open cycle.

Do you have access to a Star diagnostic system? If so you could try to tests on the tail gate, you should be able to test all signals that way.

Everything works except the motor. I also think the motor is included in the dampers since they are the only mechanical connection between the tailgate and the coachwork except for the hinges. Maybe it´s a signal problem. However also the close signal is then lacking.

Unfortunately I have no Star diagnostic system, only an OBD-system. Perhaps an investment in a Star would be a good idea!

 

From what I see on the web, once unlatched the tailgate automatically lifts. The motor pulls it down. Maybe the motor is out. The cheaper part is the actuator.

 

could be an anti-pinch strip issue, motor issue, relay issue, SAM issue, etc. without a scan of the system its only guessing game.

I´m not sure that the tailgatge lifts itself once unlached. For me it opens 1-2 cm when unlached and then I have to lift it. The force needed is almost neglectable. The same is for closing and locking.

 

Best case the rear hatch needs to be "reset" - dealer can do that - since it sounds like you have manually opened/closed several times - if nothing else the safety system has been tripped requiring reset.

fabbrisd1, you were right! Took my SUV to the dealer yesterday. There was a failure code on the hatch control unit. Deleting the code fixed the problem!
