The model year of your car could make a difference, and it would be helpful in future posts if you included full info in your avatar or in your question.

BBaller14 has posted a fuse chart for an '01 S500 at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1308766-2001-s500-fuse-diagram.html . In addition, there should be one on a loose, folded chart in your spare tire well.

Hope it helps, and welcome to the forum!!

Has anyone ever solved this case? I have an S430/2001 with replaced low-beams, but the right-side light won't work even though it's brand new... Looking at the fuse grid, I see "Electronic Fuse"... what the?

Can anybody tell me what to look for here? I would be eternally greatfull... :D

If I am not wrong, it is a thyristor or SCR controlled circuit, which will disconnect the power supply (acting as a fuse) whenever it is seen as an error. It will not be seen physically as a piece of fuse. When the error is corrected, the power will flow back as normal.

Same electronic fuse problem

Front left side marker light and rear left fog light in my 2003 W220 are not working because of the same electronic fuse problem. Does anybody know how to fix this problem? Where is the electronic fuse located? Does it need to be replaced?

Does anybody found an answer to Where is or what is an electronic fuse ??
My 2003 e320 also suffered from low beam not working, all research point to the word
"Electronic fuse" A call to dealer has not resolve the issues, only to be told to check in my car !!!

Winmaw accurately answered what an electronic fuse is in post #6. It is not a "fuse" in the conventional sense; it is actually a circuit that will sense an overload, disconnect when certain parameters are reached, and reset itself when the proper parameters exist again. It will remain disconnected 1) if the faulty equipment remains on the circuit, or 2) if there is a malfunction in the electronic fuse itself.

There are several electronic fuses; one is under the right rear seat and is associated with the SAM (Signal Acquisition Module) also located there. I believe others are located in the front SAMs (under the fuse panels under the hood). Because the one I know of is associated with a SAM, I suspect the other SAM units also have them. As I vaguely recall, there may be one associated with the air conditioning system as well.

They are not something that you just buy at the auto parts store and replace, as with ordinary fuses. Your dealer should have told you that it would take more diagnosis, and to bring the car in.

huh?

So I have been looking at the fuse charts...all of them..because in one thread, I got from the sticky..it says that the ones listed may not match my vehicle because of my VIN...so I just downloaded all of them...

but they are hard to read...? honestly, I dont have much experience with fuse panels...so I have been studying them for the past two hours..:surrender:

I get that Electronic Fuse is for the SAM..but there is a letter...and a relay and a description and a number...so for example if i'm looking for the fuse for the ESP what where is the fuse...? I would think in the left engine compartment..for F and fuse number 2 and 34..but um no

my vin is WDBNG75J9YA070984..2000 W220...its rather unsettling.. that I can't understand this chart..

dont know which chart matches my car...and I can't understand the fuse diagram..of course I dont have the sheet in my truck...of course..I don't.

can someone please give me an idea of how to read the fuse panel.

No, on certain electronic control circuits a conventional "melt" fuse would be too slow and cause damage. The electronic fuse prevents that, and proper diagnostic shop equipment will identify the cause. Not only MB, but also other auto makers use this.

read, read, read!

If my memory serves me correctly, the left SAM contorls the right headlamp, and the right SAM controls the left headlamp. This is addressed in the W220 S-Class Encyclopedia sticky. However, there are many other things that can cause a headlamp to fail; this is written up in the Encyclopedia as well. Do a little reading.

I

If anyone is viewing from 2020, one possible fix to this is unplugging the harness from headlight and reconnecting it. This might work if none of the functions associated with one headlight works indicator, foglight high/low beam or side light.
Hope this works for you:)
