Does anyone have a copy of the fuse diagram for a 2001 S500. I've looked in the trunk with the tools and was not able to find it. My cigarette lighters are not working in the back doors and figured it was a fuse but dont know which one.

PLEASE NOTE: Models of the W220 from 2003-2006 have FOUR fuse panels. In those models there are two in the engine compartment, one on each side; one under the right rear seat (access is via the panel surrounding the right rear courtesy light in the floor space); and one in the dashboard (right side for LHD cars, left side for RHD cars). It is easy to miss on the diagrams - Fuses 78 through 86 are in the dashboard fuse panel, which is particularly well-hidden. Check your owner's manual and the large "vehicle" diagram on the fuse chart for locations. See the thread at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1523462-need-fuse-chart-2005-s55-amg.html for fuse charts for '04-'06.

Also, there is a fuse box for a 150-amp fuse supplying power to the red wires for the SAM units; it is located in the right rear quarter panel, behind the trunk lining. And there is another in the right footwell. See post #8, S430 issues w220 2002 - MBWorld.org Forums for photos of each; also note the discussion in the thread. These are not the ordinary easy-to-replace fuses, and you will likely have to buy the whole box.

Does anyone know where the fuse box is in my 2004 S430 4Matic? My auto door closing is not working and this thread stated to pull a FUSE that is for the this function. Or, I can disconnect the battery, but I can not locate that either.
Since you're new I'll be patient & explain. Most people will tell you to get a clue & read the other posts in this thread & to use the search function on this site.

Your battery is in the trunk on the far right side under the carpet/panel. There are 2 fuse boxes under the hood. One on the left side (driver's side) & one on the right side (passenger side). They are rectangular shaped boxes almost directly below the windshield/windshield wipers. When referencing parts on a car the proper way is as if you were sitting in the car (i.e. left side=driver's side/right side=passenger side).

The 3rd fuse box is under the rear seat on the right side (passenger side). You don't need to remove the seat. In my '01 S430 there is a small plastic panel with a courtesy light below the seat cushion (in the carpeted area). You pop out this plastic panel which holds the light & behind there you will find your fuses. I assume your '04 has the same light. If not there will still be some kind of panel in this area that you remove.

You also need to read the other posts on pg. 1 of this thread & look at the fuse diagrams that have been provided.

If you door issue turns out to be just a blown fuse you'll be lucky. But then you'll have to ask yourself why did the fuse blow in the 1st place. Odds are there is some other cause besides a bad fuse. Good luck..

I never heard of a recall.
Airmatic (front struts in particular) failures are common in out cars.
Did any side of your car drop? Was your front lower than usual when you got the malfunction? Were you driving, or maybe it sat parked for a while?

I'd say to first make sure your front stirs are not leaking air. To do that u can observe the top seals (the the pressure lines come in) and do a soap test while you flip on the raised setting.

A search for this will give you a ton of info.

Pull any of the fuses for your audio system - check them - replace any bad ones - then put them back in.

Alternatively, disconnect the battery and reconnect it after a few minutes - perhaps up to 30. Be sure the ignition is completely off when you do.

Thank you for the chart. Much appreciated. :)

Now, out of the blue my passenger side soft close, has up and..quit. :/ (Trunk, and the other 3 doors, work fine.) I've read, the resulting problem, could be a number of thing. That said, for my 2001 MB, S 500 where exactly is that fuse? I'd like to start there.

Looking at the chart, I don't think it goes by the name "soft close". So, what are we calling it? (Or rather, what does MB..call it?) This, would help me locate exactly which fuse to replace.

I have, the fuse box located at the rear right, passenger seat. (About, where ones heels would be. Geesh, I hope it's there..and not under the hood, lol.)

Could someone point me in the correct direction?

Thank you, in advance. :)

JaneAnne,

Take a look at the W220 S-Class Encyclopedia under "Body." The recently-updated links deal with the PSE pump, which operates the soft close system; the fuse location, in the panel behind the courtesy light in the right rear passenger footwell; photos of some of the components that tend to leak, including the door latch mechanism the door latch mechanism; and discussions on rebuilding the PSE pump itself. However, if the fuse were the problem, none of your soft close items would work.

Most likely you have a leak in the actuator of the door for which soft close does not work. If you close that door and listen carefully, you will hear 1) your PSE pump running too long, which will eventually wear it out; and 2) a quiet hiss from the vicinity of the door latch (the portion that actually engages the striker or bolt in the door frame). The leak is probably coming from the actuator, but could also be in one of the plastic lines to the actuator.

If you can find the leak, you may be able to seal it. That sounds far easier than it may be in practice. See the videos and the pdf files on door panel removal, also under "Body" in the Encyclopedia.
