Fuse charts

Thought I would make finding the fuse charts a little easier for all. There are four fuse charts that cover all models of the W220 (and also the W215). They are shown below: The four charts with part numbers ending in 1500, 1600, 1700 and 1800. A fifth chart, ending in 1400, was replaced by 1500.

Also below is a chart labeled "Fuse Chart Guide" to assist in determining which applies to your particular car; you can determine the applicable chart by first finding your model and year, and then applying your VIN. In doing that you will find which of the four charts is for your car.

Please be aware that even with the correct part number the chart may not appear correct for your car as the charts are a 1 for all (Charts cover all cars worldwide left or right hand drive), so a fuse listed may or may not be installed in your car.

If you can't find the part number there are plenty here that can supply it from your VIN.

Thanks. pinkster - really nice work.

Please note: The fuse charts are an excellent starting point, but there are many discussions concerning various malfunctions in which specific fuses are involved. The discussions also point out failures in the equipment that caused the fuse to blow. Searching the W220 forum will be necessary to find these discussions.

Note that MY '00 ('99 in Europe) through '02 have three fuse boxes, and '03 through '06 have four.

In addition, there are several large fuses, 100 amp or so, sometimes called "pre-fuses" that supply power directly from the battery via large red wires to the SAMs and the fuse boxes attached to them. See http://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w220/348103-s430-issues-w220-2002-a.html and especially post 8 for photos. The "pre-fuses" are not shown on the fuse diagrams. If these are shorted, the fuse and the block that contains it must be replaced. The 100 amp fuses are not available separately.

Some folks may find the partial listing of fuse charts below helpful. Not all charts are included.

MY '00 starts at post 14, http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1219691-fusechart-2.html

MY '01 S500/S430 is at post 3, http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1308766-2001-s500-fuse-diagram.html; it may also apply to MY '02.

MY '01-'02 S55 is at posts 17-23, http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1816106-2002-s55-fuse-chart-2.html

MY '03(?) through MY '06, see http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1523462-need-fuse-chart-2005-s55-amg.html

NOTE: MY '03 through '06 have FOUR fuse panels (two in the engine compartment, one under the back seat, and one in the side of the dashboard). MY '00 - '02 have three, omitting the panel in the side of the dashboard.

Shorted the red wire going to the fuse box under the back seat (HINT: that is not just a fuse box, it is a SAM) S430 issues w220 2002 - MBWorld.org Forums; post 8 in that link has photos of the large fuse locations both in the trunk and in the right front passenger footwell.

What is a SAM, and where are they? http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-sclass/1644809-what-sam-module-how-do-you.html THIS HAS BEEN UPDATED TO INCLUDE SPECIFIC SAM FUNCTIONS (Thanks, BulletheadD!)

Electronic Fuse, what and where they are, posts 6 and 12 at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1310396-electronic-fuse-location.html and http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1644809-what-sam-module-how-doyou.html
