Hello Guys,

I tried to replace my original mercedes benz battery to a brand new A/C Delco battery and I got the error messages, ESP, BAS, and Airmatic, see workshop. I re-installed back the original mercedes benz battery and the same error message occurs. Is their a way I can reset this? I have a 2001 Mercedes-Benz S500. The reason why I wanted to change the battery is because the instrument dash occasionally blinks alot, it is very annoying when driving at night. I thought a new battery would fix the problem but it made it worst!

Did you disconnect your battery or replace it also? Or did the lights come on while you were driving? Which lights are illuminated? If you disconnected your battery and the lights are now on after you start the engine then simply turn the steering wheel full left all the way then turn it full right, then return to center position and shut motor off. Wait two minutes and start engine again and see if the lights go out. If they don't repeat process again. If they don't go out after a couple of tries then you might have a sensor bad.

:1poke: And I'm kicking myself for not addressing the instrument cluster issue. If you get any garbage from the dealer telling you that your VIN is not on the list of recalled cars, tell him to check for the extended warranty that runs for 10 years from the initial service date of the car, which superseded the recall. See the whole history of the recall and extended warranty at Instrument Cluster Removal - Page 3 - MBWorld.org Forums - but post #58 in that string has a copy of the extended warranty letter.

Old news but I've had my W220 cluster fixed by UpFix for a couple hundred bucks. My LCD display for mileage and gear selection as well as the center LCD had gone out and they fixed it at the board level and returned it.

Turning Left and Right really fixed the problem

After i turned all the way to the left and all way to the right, all the error messages went away. It took around two mins, scared me for a moment. Thanks for the tip about the instrument cluster, I will try to get it replaced.

the lights are on after replacing the battery because the steering angle sensor needs to be reset, like they said above, you need to turn the steering wheel all the way left and then all the way right and then back to center. As far as your cluster flickering goes, Mercedes-benz actually extended the warranty on your vehicle's instrument cluster to 10 years and unlimited miles i beleive, also their was a recall on some of the early 220 vehicles instrument clusters, so you may want to visit your local dealer and see if they can replace it for you free of charge.

It may need to re-make the controllers readiness. Have you done a few stops and starts at various speeds and conditions. After all codes are cleared ie interupting power supply it needs do rebuild it's readiness. Bit like a computer's cache. Give it a run and see if it persists. Other problem sounds like a bad earth.
