Can Anyone Help Me With This Sitution, I Had My Airmatic Message Come Up Even Though Everything Was Working A Member Told Me That I Can Un Due One Of My Battery Terminal So It Resets The Computer So When I Plugged The Terminal Back, Every Other Sign Came Up Esp.brake Assist, Abs, Airmatic. I Dont Want To Get Hosed At The Dealership Can Anyone Give Me Some Tips On What To Do.
Thanks

I assume you pushed the Reset button to turn them off? Did they go off/stay off? I always thought that "remove battery cable" thing was a bad idea. Your dealer won't "hose" you to reset those "Malfunctions." They might even do it for free!

Did you disconnect the main battery in the trunk? or did you disconnect the Aux power under the hood?

There is no grave danger from disconnecting the battery otherwise we'd all be screwed if a battery failed and they all do sooner than later. But the Aux power unit is a different story.

Either way, Just a simple Clearing of all faults makes it all go away.they might not even charge you as it only takes a second.

BTW> PLEEEZE tell me you had the ignition off when you unplugged the battery and plugged it back in right?

Yes I dissconnected from the trunk and yes my ignition was off, I just dont understand why all the messages came on after I did that, im starting to think something is wrong with my computer if reacts to power outage like that

It is normal to see ESP/ABS message after disconnecting and connecting the cable, to reset it just turn the steering wheel lock to lock.

Here are the RESETS

This info is so handy, although I have posted it before, I'm doing it again.

Disconnecting the battery, or low battery voltage, can cause loss of memory in some devices, especially those that set positions of certain equipment; and they can cause fault indications, most of which can be reset. One caveat: If a warning light cannot be reset, it could be because the system has retained a fault code (which my not be related to the battery) or because there is actually a system fault that must fixed, and the code cleard, before the light will reset. A second cavat: If a battery runs low repeatedly, one should check the chargbg system, and you may also have to check for excess quiecent current drain (see the Encyclopedia)

That said, here are the things to try first:

Windows, seats, mirrors, steering wheel position (easy entry/exit) and the like can be reset by running them fully in one direction, holding the switch at full travel for approximately 2 seconds (or longer), then running to the opposite limit, holding for about 2 seconds (or longer). It is not unusual to have to do this after the battery is disconnected. The positioning of many of these features is controlled by a Hall's Effect generator, a simple device that counts revolutions of a motor shaft, and it must be set to register the proper number of turns to reach both limits of travel.

SEAT POSITION: If your seats refuse to move in one direction, try this:
1. Hold down the "M" button and move the affected section of the seat with the seat control switch in the direction opposite the direction it does NOT move. That is, if the seat won't move forward, hold the M button and move it back.
2. Release the memory button and move the control of the affected section of the seat in the direction you want it to move. Hopefully, it will now work.
3. This applies to any of the seat position adjustments.

Seats (easy exit) - try running them to the limits as above; however, the seats slide back in the easy exit mode only if they are pretty far forward in the first place. If they are back beyond certain limits (set by Mercedes), not sliding further back is normal operation.

Not all cars have easy exit feature, and those that do must have the option selected in the MFD (instrument cluster) menu.

Synchronizing Head Restraints:

If the power supply was interrupted (battery disconnected or empty), the head restraints are no longer adjusted automatically. To resynchronize the adjustment feature, turn electronic key in steering lock to position 2, move the seat completely forward and the head restraint fully down, and hold respective buttons for approximately two seconds.

Synchronizing power windows:

If the power supply was interrupted (battery disconnected or low), the windows cannot be opened or closed by the Express feature. To resynchronize the express feature, press side of power window switch to resistance point until the window is completely closed and hold for additional 2 seconds. Repeat procedure for each window. The automatic full opening and closing procedure of the windows should now be restored. (Note: This sometimes works as well for problems with manual operation of the windows, but not always). ALSO - if your windows don't close fully with one-touch operation, and re-synching doesn't work - especially if they start going up, stop, then retract partially - lubricate the tracks with silicone spray!!

Synchronizing sliding/pop-up roof:

If the power supply was interrupted (battery disconnected or low), or if the sliding/pop-up roof is blocked during closing/opening procedure, the system has to be synchronized. To do so, turn electronic key in steering lock to position 2, move and hold switch in direction (3), until the sliding/pop-up roof is completely raised at rear, and hold for additional 1 second. If the pop-up roof simply will not open or close all the way after using this procedure, clean the tracks and lubricate them with the MB lubricant made for the purpose.

Global Synchronization of auto open/unlock (windows open/close when car is unlocked/locked):

Global synchronization synchs all of your windows and sunroof so that they all open or close by a single command (pointing the key at the IR receiver in the driver's door handle, and pushing & holding lock or unlock). Place the A/C switch on the A/C control panel in Auto, and the "air recirculstion" button on (note: you may have to use the "EC" or "economy mode" button in pre-facelift cars). Then press the button between the temp controls and hold it until all of the windows and roof close. This should resynch them. After that, the Smart Key should open or close the windows and sunroof as well as lock or unlock the doors.

Also: Door locks are controlled from the key by radio frequency, and will operate regardless of direction the key is pointed. The auto window/sunroof features are infrared, however, and operate only if the key is pointed at the small square IR receiver in the driver's door handle. The IR range is usually less than the RF range, and can be affected by bright sunlight directly on the door handle.

If the problem isn't synchronization, but the system just won't work at all, it may be a bad IR receiver in the door handle. See
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1620660-convenience-opening-closing-feature.html and http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w22...class/w220-s-class/w220-s-class/w220-s-class/w220-s-class/w220...l#post10079385

Synchronizing ESP - If the BAS, ESP and (if you have it) ABS Lights are on, or if you have a Pre-Safe warning: - these may be caused by a low battery, by power interruption requiring reset of the ESP, or input to it from the wheel speed sensor or steering angle sensor. The initial troubleshooting is the same for all.

If the BAS/ESP malfunction indicator lamp are illuminated with the engine running (and you could have a Pre-Safe warning), first turn the steering wheel completely (stop to stop) to the left and then to the right. You may have to do this two or three times. The BAS/ESP and ABS malfunction indicator lamp should go out. For more on resetting the entire ECU, see http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w208-clk-class/1210257-found-ecu-reset-procedure.html and also post #4 at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1675241-bsa-esp.html

Also note!! - ABS, BAS and ESP Warning and difficult steering could be cued by nothing more than an ABS wheel speed sensor. http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1390781-many-problems-abs-esp-airmatic-heavy.html and http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1435051-abs-bas-esp-warning-hard-steering.html and http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1538876-abs-esp-abc-do-not-work.html

Wheel speed sensor malfunctions may also cause flashing of hazard warning lights and limit power - http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w22...ums/w220-s-class/1645239-hazard-light-flashes-prevents-acceleration-during.html - Further, the lights have been known to be illuminated by a bad steering angle sensor (you may also have a pull in steering in one direction or another). If the stop-to-stop procedure does not extinguish the lights, one of these sensors may need to be replaced.

ECU reset procedure: ECU adaptation reset will make your car faster if it's been driven slowly for a while.

1. Enter the car and close the doors. Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position.
2. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.
3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.
5. Drive the car and you will most likely notice it's a bit more peppy

AN SRS LIGHT MAY NOT BE A "RESET" ITEM - see http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/2049001-srs-light-front-drivers-airbag.html - have the system checked. While a low battery can trigger the light, so can a malfunction; the fault must be fixed, if there was one, and the fault code cleared by DAS.

Synchronizing remote control:

The remote control may have to be resynchronized, if the vehicle cannot be locked or unlocked. To synchronize insert electronic key in steering lock. The remote control should once again be operational."

Synchronizing Steering Column Height/Easy Exit:

Before doing this procedure, first check that the wheel will move up AND down. Move your steering column down SLIGHTLY, and then see if you can then bring it back up to where it started; if so then you can reset the column with the following procedure:

IF the steering wheel will move in both directions
, but simply does not travel its full distance, run the steering column full down, and holding the switch down for about 10 seconds after it reaches the lowest position; then run it back up fully and hold the switch up for about 10 seconds after the column reaches its upper limit of travel. You may need to do this several times. That should reset the limits in the Halls' Effect generator, and your column should function normally.

HOWEVER, if it goes down slightly, but will not go back up at all, do not try the reset - it may will go fully down and not come back up! You may not be able to get into the car to drive. Instead, see posts 7 and 8 at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/2232482-steering-wheel-out-down-but-not.html - the problem could be a stuck relay. If a stuck relay is confirmed, replace it, then perform the reset procedure above.

IF the steering wheel will not move in either direction, and fuse checks do not find the problem, see http://mbworld.org/forums/audio-ele...dio-electronics/201439-how-fix-power-steering-column-will-not-move-up-down.html

Resetting Automatic Windshield Wiper Function (with a tip of the hat to mvmiler):

First, pull and reseat your windshield wiper relays (locations are on the fuse diagram usually found in the tool compartment in your spare tire well). There are also diagrams in the Encyclopedia.

With engine running and all passenger doors closed, starting at 0 turn on wipers to position 3, then put the switch in the 0 position then put it in the auto 1 (rain sensor position) then have someone splash water on the windshield as the doors have to be closed to reset this function. Then they should function normally.

Resetting Adaptive Transmission

Turn the Key to the "on" position (the position right before you start your engine)
Press and hold your gas pedal down for approximately 5 seconds.
Turn Key to "off" position (dont remove the key) and then release the gas pedal.
Then wait approximately 2 minutes. Your transmission will readjust/relearn your style after approximately 5 minutes of driving.

This info is so handy, although I have posted it before, I'm doing it again.

First, the ECU reset procedure that Johnny7623 recommended is included in my owner's manual in the battery change instructions - along with some additional info on things that may need to be reset (it helps to read those manuals!!) However, not everything is addressed there, so here goes.

Place the A/C switch on the A/C control panel in Auto, and the recirc button on.

Synchronizing ESP (ECU):

If the power supply was interrupted (battery disconnected or empty), the BAS/ESP malfunction indicator lamp may be illuminated with the engine running. Turn steering wheel completely to the left and then to the right. The BAS/ESP malfunction indicator lamp should go out. For more on resetting the entire ECU, see http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w208-clk-class/1210257-found-ecu-reset-procedure.html.

Synchronizing remote control:

The remote control may have to be resynchronized, if the vehicle cannot be locked or unlocked. To synchronize insert electronic key in steering lock. The remote control should once again be operational."

Synchronizing Steering Column Height/Easy Exit:

Steering wheel height - basically the same procedure, but with a caution. Move your steering column down SLIGHTLY, and if you can then bring it back up to where it started (but not higher), then you need to reset the column with the simple procedure below. HOWEVER, if it goes down slightly, but will not go back up at all, do not try the reset - it probably will go fully down and not come back up! You may not be able to get into the car to drive, if that happens. Get it serviced.

Run the steering column full down, and holding the switch down for about 10 seconds after it reaches the lowest position; then run it back up fully and hold the switch up for about 10 seconds after the column reaches its upper limit of travel. You may need to do this several times. That should reset the limits in the Halls' Effect generator, and your column should function normally.

Seats (easy exit) - try running them to the limits also; however, the seats slide back in the easy exit mode only if they are pretty far forward in the first place. if they are back beyond certain limits (set by Mercedes), not sliding further back is normal operation.

Not all cars have easy exit feature, and those that do must have the option selected in the MFD (instrument cluster) menu.
SKY:?

What Are You Talking About Here
running them fully in one direction, What Is Them ???
(easy entry/exit) and the like can be reset by running them fully in one direction, holding the switch at full travel for approximately 2 seconds (or longer), then running to the opposite limit, holding for about 2

Thank You Sky

That would explain why my window express was not working everything now is great i just have to check tosee what is wrong with the airmatic and im good to go. Thanks Skylaw for taking the time to write that out!

mvmiller has added one more to our knowledge: Power seats.

1. Hold down the "M" button and move the affected section of the chair with the chair control switch in the opposite direction it does NOT move.
2. Release the memory button and move the control of the affected section of the chair the direction you want it to go and it should go.

Thanks!!

sorry this is not a reply, new to the site. I have a question, i drive a 2001 mercedes s430 and recently my esp and bas malfunctions came on so i had it scoped and it said that i needed to change the bas release switch that is on the brake booster. I changed it and everything was cleared then a week later the malfunctions came back and i've had it checked again and again and the dealer keeps telling me that the release switch is good. My question why are the malfunctions continuing to come back?

Tosman, if I interpret your question, you indicate that your steering wheel won't go up (or possibly down). If so, see post # 14 at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1302190-ive-had-2.html#post2216730

Be sure to observe the caution about lowering the wheel if it won't go up.

If it won't move at all, it could be a failed motor or a broken nylon connector.

no no it moves up and also down but it wont increase till the end... easy exit function increase much than manual...

i am sory about my language i couldnt explain it

golf18, please complete the information under your avatar, so we know what model year your car is (it can make a difference); I presume it is a W220, since you ask the question on this forum.

You may not be able to get the easy exit feature to perform as you describe. The steering column will move up for easy exit, but it does not retract. The seat, which moves back but not up for easy entry/exit, will move only if it is normally positioned pretty far forward. If it is positioned within certain parameters set by Mercedes, it won't move at all (I don't know why, or what the parameters are).

You activate easy entry/exit feature in the convenience menu of the instrument cluster display. The function is fully described in your owner's manual.

Thanks for the reminder to complete the user info.... it's done.
Yeah, the 2000 does not have any info in the instr. cluster display. It's weird how they set this one up but okay just don't want to overlook it if it were available to me. While I have ya, I have a couple questions you or others might answer...
1) What's an easy solution to getting mp3's connected to this car.
2) Overnite my back end is up extremely high (about 6-8 inches) WHY? When I unlock the car I hear hissing while the back end starts lowering down to normal.
Thanks for all your help.... I love this group.

I take it you mean there is no info on easy entry/exit in the convenience menu. My '00 S500 had the feature, as does my '05; perhaps it wasn't available on the S430.

The "easy" mp3 solution is something like the Harman Kardon iDrive or the Drive+Play, using the option to connect through the FM antenna. However, you have screens and controls you'll want to hide away. See http://www.benzworld.org/forums/aud...s/audio-telematics-forum/1414538-ipod-integration-kit-harman-kardon-idrive.html and Harman Kardon - Drive+Play - iPod car adaptor driveplay drive+play iPod car interface iPod interface car adaptor iPod adaptor car audio iPod car stereo iPod iPodcarstereo iPodcaraudio driveandplay drive play ipod, nano ipod in car apple

Units that broadcast FM over-the-air are generally unsatisfactory; subject to noise and poor sound quality.

The best solution is offered by the Dension Gateway 500' you may want to consider competitors such as MoBridge and iTronics, but my experience is with the Gateway 500. It feeds audio directly into the fiber optics, and the quality is superb. Unfortunately, in your car you will not get song title readouts on the COMAND unit because your D2B COMAND is not test capable; however, there is an option that lets you control song, album, artist, or playlist sorting on the iPod itself while allowing scrolling and volume control via the steering wheel. See http://www.benzworld.org/forums/audio-telematics-forum/1319829-gateway-500-most-not-ready-prime.html for my installation. Your D2B installation would not require the changes in the trunk.

The airmatic problem you describe sounds like a bad valve block, if indeed the back end is rising. Are you sure the front isn't lowering as well? If so, that could indicate other problems. In any case, it is a problem you need to have your dealer or a certified MB independent look at right away. Don't let non-certified mechanics touch your airmatic system.
