2008 was the year of a facelift, so we could be talking about two different systems ...
Please post a photo of your Audio / COMAND unit and, if known, what options are included in the spec, alternatively you could list your VIN and I will look it up for you ;)

Hi everyone,

I have an issue with my 2009 B180 in that the driver's inside door unlock latch (the little silver hook that you pull to open the door) keeps braking on the inside where the cable joins. It's probably due to old plastic. I was able to fix it by screwing a brass hook into the plastic after drilling a small pilot hole (worked for a couple of months as a quick repair tip). Can anyone tell me if the silver latch is replaceable or do I have to buy a whole replacement door card?

cheers,

Not sure how it is sold at the dealer. Why not just call and find out?

Myself, because of an oversupply of B's in our breaker yards (as I've just shown here and in the recent past),..I would go and get a few from any breaker yard around.

Hi guys. Figured I'd revive this chat. I am looking to change my spark plugs because I have no history of them ever being changed on my car (at 15 years old and 90000kms). The procedure seems quite simple for NON turbo B's... The only thing that I am unsure of is which spark plug to get... I have done a bit of research and there is copper, platinum, iridium etc. Mostly from BOSCH and NGK. Not sure which would be best/which is recommended by Mercedes for this vehicle.. If you have changed yours in the past please let me know!

I change my plugs B170 every 50,000 km with NGK IFR6Q-G Iridium Platinum. Easy enough job on a non turbo except the plug caps can sometimes be a bit of a challenge to pull free. I buy all my plugs and oil filters off AliExpress, they are half or less than the retail prices here in New Zealand.

I've got quite a few options here on Rockauto. I know shipping prices can be crazy with these guys, but I will be ordering a lot of parts for other cars as well (all from the same warehouse). But here are some of my options.

I was looking at the Bosch 9652 at 5$CAD each... I don't want to get anything overkill but for the price it seems reasonable. What do you guys think? ALSO, what I like is that the gap is preset on those so no other work then to install it on my end.

Sounds reasonable to me, the local supplier wants NZ$38 each for plugs here.

Actually just took a second look. I think I will opt for the Bosch 6702.... Platinum. They are 4$ (I don't care about the 1$ difference).... but the issue is that the other Iridium plugs DO NOT come from the same warehouse as the other parts I want to order... So I will probably just get these. If I had the turbo, I would get the longest lasting one because I know how annoying the install is for those. But in this case, it seems quite easy as long as you can remove the spark plug wires.

That price seems too good to be true....so beware of scams and really check them out before. But much has already been covered here many years in the past....

Never forget to look at the titles on page one at or from the top..The Spark Plug Title is always there..as a Sticky..

DEVOURS is back from his holiday and is keen to replace his spark plugs. The job seems overly complicated but I am sure he will find an easy way to do it, and pass the info back to us.👍 I am sure it is not a job we wish to perform to often nor pay the dealership to do, so lets find a way to lessen the pain.

Questions for all in the forum

1) Has any one had any long life spark plugs installed in any car they have owned?

2) What brands seem to work the best?

3) What is factory plug and gap?

As Keith has shown, these plugs are the very same ones that I removed on my B200.
Cardoctorparts.com on ebay has them at 14 pounds sterling and also has the pollen(cabin)(by fram for 16 pounds sterling) and engine filters(fram). The shipping for 4 plugs and pollen filter is 12 pounds sterling to Canada.
That's less than 1/2 the local stealers price.👍

For the few of us that might be inclined.

Yes, the price does seem really good... However, keep in mind that the shipping is the real expensive part. coming out to an extra 20$CAD... so really its closer to 40$. I have looked through some of the older chats here... There are SOO many though... Hard to look through them all. I will continue looking through them to learn some more about the B.

The price is toooo good.
Little update, I settled for champion spark plugs instead.. Iridium ones. I think they need to be properly gapped before I put them in, but that's okay because I have the tool. Came out to 7$ each... excluding shipping costs. Rockauto can be pretty good when you order in bulk. For those who are curious I got these:

So quick question for you guys... Not sure how I didn't spot this earlier... But there is clearly oil on one of my ignition coils. The spark plug seems to have some as well. The spark plug also smells like oil. Not sure if this is a valve cover gasket failure (specifically the spark plug seals)... I don't know what the design looks like on this car for the valve cover gasket anyways... Looks like a complicated job though since it's at the bottom. What do you guys think is going on here? What should I check? Any info helps...

BTW. I have NOT changed the plugs yet.

Give us the # and brand on that spark plug and the length and dimensions please. You also have to find out where that oil is originating from. Use a variety of mirrors and lights if necessary.

You might need to perform a compression test if indicated later on. It's carbonized but with no oil wetness. There might have been some misfiring with the oil on that plug wiring.

I am not sure of the spark plug model (I didn't check)... All I know is that it's Bosch.. so likely the original. I took a second look at it today. Seems to be the valve cover leaking oil. I believe that there is NO rubber gasket.. It is simply RTV. I can't seem to find a lot of videos online that show this repair though. I will do it myself, but I just need a bit of guidance on where to start and what exactly needs to be removed and how. Have you seen any B's with this similar issue (that have maybe explained what the process is like as well)?
