Interesting truck....even more interesting workplace!!

 

Kamaz has been winning Dakar pretty much every year for the last 6-7 years,
except one MAN"s win,which was rather accidental.
How much of the original Kamaz and Russian technology is in Dakar - Kamaz
itself, that may be another topic though.

YEP, even the Dutch guys (De Rooy's) in the DAFS have not been able to beat them...

The Russians are really proud of their KAMAZ's. They are a pretty neat truck - we do have several of the Super Duty ones with the MAN Diesel and ZF gear boxes but the ones shown in the pictures have the Kamaz engines and gearboxes. The Super Dutys sit 4 guys across in the cab whereas the one I drove only sat 3 guys comfortably. We use these to pull our frac pumps etc in rough terrain instead of our Kenworths or MANs. We also have a pile of URAL 6X6s but these are really crappy in comparison to the KAMAZ.

They will do 75 MPH and have twin turbo V8 diesels. The trucks shown in the pictures are worth under $40k new. The IROC I drove has a picker on the back and a crew box. The truck in the other picture is an iron truck for hauling frac iron - it is vertially idnetical to the one I drove.

Under $40K new?? For real? That's for a 43114 with CTIS?
Any idea what one costs with a MAN and ZF? 16 speeds sounds a lot better than 5.
Can the MAN version by purchased in western Europe (in the EC)?

What's the fuel consumption like on one of those?

 

The 4X4 ones are under $30k. We just put some together for our mechanics. The Super Duty trucks with the MAN and ZF are more but are also a bigger truck - think Kenworth size. We use these to haul horsepowers around - in North America these get towed with Kenworths or Peterbuilts.

Kamaz's are cheap but probably won't be of the quality you expect from MB or even Domestic junk.
