Along those lines with a 30 offset, my understanding is we require 25 or less, these wheels won't fit anyway (unless less is actually more, still figuring out this one)

We ARE still talking about those wheels, no ? They look nice and since I wouldn't be driving like Mario Andretti they probably would work well too, question is would they hold up to "normal" non hotrod driving ?

The peanut butter and jelly socks . . . . . . FIRST thought was TOE JAM :eek :devil

Yeah it's too bad this discussion is lacking in facts and full of snobbery and fear

We've all been gaga over trying to find modern replica Amg wheels for those who don't want a set of $2000 cracked center , curb rashed 80s rims needing refinishing . There's been a scammer offering them and large $$$ was sent his way , there's been a few international sellers marking up the Turkish and Chinese replicas from $400 to $1500 and now here we have a set from a reputable USA supplier , for $399 a set that fit the 126 perfectly as seen in the linked thread above , needing only some raised center caps for the front , and all people can do is make baseless speculation about the quality

If they were $1499 instead of $399 would you think they were higher quality ? Apparently the guy selling imaginary Pentas made people believe that higher prices equal better quality , when all it equaled was vaporware

Yeah i got done for a cool $3k over that scam
Not knocking but its hard to imagine new rims for $399 being of any quality when compared to what you would pay for any other US made rim.
They have to be coming from China for that crazy low price.

I recently contacted an LA based rim maker for a set of 17" centres only to be made and we are taking some serious coin like +$600 per centre
Just my thoughts on really cheap new rims - but for others may suit their budget fine and of course its their personal choice on what rim they bolt up so nothing else matters

The thing is the $1500-3000 modern versions of Amg rims also start as $399 China rims too..they just pass through several middlemen marking then up from $399 to $1500-3000!!!

Ecstuning has eliminated those middlemen taking their cut - as the Alzor name brand is their In-house label, and that's why the price is so low. Yes they're likely china built . But they are sold by a reputable USA company . Once the middlemen discover these rims they'll make a "package for the 126" with lug bolts and raised center caps, and be reselling them at $1500 and claiming they're better quality

I think the wheels look great! Beats buying older wheels and spending a minimum of $500 a set to get them trued and painted. If one was serious just call the vendor and ask about returns, complaints, failures etc. I overheard my indie one day call his vendor to discuss a substitute part he had received and the vendor happily gave him a complete run down on how many had been sold, returned etc. I imagine ECS has the same information. The last thing a retailer wants or needs are "boomerang" products. Their interest is satisfied customers. Also a local wheel repair company told me that if you buy cheap or inexpensive wheels it is a good idea to buy a spare as the repair cost most likely will be more than the cost of the original wheel. It also depends on your local roads and the thickness of the tires as in 19-20" wheels with thin tires and many pot holes you will be looking for trouble. 16-17" with adequate rubber is less of a risk. As our cars may have the capability to cruise at speeds of 120+, most users and possibly forum members generally travel between 65-75 mph on nice maintained highways. I recently viewed a CL ad for "completely rebuilt" HRE forged wheels for $3500. That tells me even the best wheels can fail under certain circumstances.
Just my $.02

They crack because most places these days do not hand torque to proper spec, instead they use the pneumatic air wrenches and bolt them up until they can't screw in any more. This put a lot of force and stress on a small area that it will naturally crack.

They could have been better designed in hindsight around the bore area with less metal milled out in the bore hole, but in most instances its abuse from rattle gun way over tightening of the lugs rather than torqued to spec with a torque wrench placing undue stress on the lug hole. (and in cases wrong lugs as well - needs ball seat - not cone seat)
The welded in alloy ring into the bore that Mclare had done is the simple solution to overcome the issue though if it arises.

Well either way I'm not in any real hurry to get a different set of wheels as I have 700 bucks worth of rubber to wear off the present rims and I don't drive anything daily any more :|. All of this info IS being stored for later reference :wink

I have two local rim shops and i know the owners very well. One deals mostly in old school rims and the other with a lot more staff the day to day stuff that comes in.
The day to day shop is always flat out dealing with tons of cracked mostly modern rims and wont touch a lot of Chinese made rims where the spokes crack.
The OZ Racing get a lot of publicity on here because they are rare and highly sought after but as i said above in hindsight if they wound the clock back they could have left a bit more meat in the bore hole. They are fine as long as not abused from rattle guns and incorrect lugs and are hand torqued to spec.

AH HA, those look like for the bundt wheels, While I wouldn't care for the raised caps I poked around and saw that ECS Tuning has some of the "regular" caps with chrome star and black faces which is what I'd want for my black wheels

Well it seems I need to make an update on my Chinese Alcor wheels. So far over a year plus of driving on them everything has been perfect. After installing some 12mm spacers I had laying around the caps fit perfectly and the front wheel still looks correct in the fender, zero rubbing. I just saw the post for the raised caps and for $13 I bought them because I would rather not run spacers if at all possible.

PS. Kim is sending me a new center for my Aero wheels, thanks my friend. I will say the amount of money that I have sunk into these OZ wheels is staggering but nothing else comes close to the way they look on the car.

I don't have a good pic of the car on the Aero's and shiny paint but here is a side by side.
