'82 240D Idle Speed Adjuster

Trying to figure this one out. Idle adjuster on my 240D did not work from the day I bought it. (not too long ago). When you try to spin it it just not moving and feels like the cable are rusted or stuck.

Removed the underdash cover and decided to look whats going on. To my surprise the cable is looks like brand new, but there is some kind of choke installed right behind the dash and preventing the cable from spinning.

Do I need to remove it, or it is installed there on purpose?

Emm, I don't know about the originality of the choke but I reckon the cable should work even with the choke attached.

But first: Have you tried with the gas pedal on the floor? Have you looked under the bonnet? The cable runs to the throttle links. The knob should be turned with ease if the gas pedal is floored first and kept down when turned. There should not be any ragged cable, cable end or cable skin at the throttle end. If something is wrong with the cable it usually is in the engine compartment.

If everything seems to be in order under the hood and you've floored the pedal too then try removing the choke and see what happens then.

The correct way to operate the idle speed adjustment is to press the accelerator to the floor (before starting the engine) and to rotate it fully counterclockwise. This will increase the idle speed a few hundred RPMs to warm the engine more quickly on a cold day.

The cable may be disconnected at the engine, or improperly adjusted. To adjust it properly, turn the knob fully clockwise, and adjust it so that there is some slack at the end of the cable on the throttle linkage.

Have you checked does the knob adjust the idle speed too or is it just rotating (imitating its purpose) :)

OT: My colleague said just day before holidays obviously head tuned up for a vacation and not really focusing on work: 'Do we really have to make work-imitating movements?'
