280TE or 280E wiring diagram?

Hello:

I am in need of a wiring diagram for a 1982 280TE or 280E.

I specifically need the part of the diagram where the transistorized ignition module and the car's wiring harness meet. There is a wire connector module there and I think one of my wires should hook into that.

The wires I'm looking to find a home for are in a bundle, one is red with black stripe and the other black with red stripe. They come out of the main wiring harness in the area behind the washer bottle.

I checked my 1980 280te parts car, and the set up is different, so I need info specific to the 1982 model.

I was removing an alarm from the 80s yesterday and obviously removed something I shouldn't and now my car won't start.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I think it's spark

I think my issue is spark. The starter cranks, and I can hear the fuel pump doing its thing.

There was an aftermarket relay attached to the driver side inner fender. The relay had a small wire running into the car, and then another wire running to what I think is a ground block or some sort of wiring block located just aft of the washer fluid tank.

I think my issue has to do with the wires coming out of the engine control computer mounted up there and how they relate to the wiring block I mentioned.

Thanks,

Jeffrey

i assume this is for the AMG 280TE you picked up?

i'd love for you to start a project thread and update us as to your progress! i'm sure others would as well.

also, are you posting and registered over at AMG Classic?

and, if you're ever travelling upstate, i'm in ithaca. i'd love to see that beast in person!

Thanks again.

Turns out this diagram is for an earlier model than mine. It closely matches the wiring in my 1980 280TE parts car. The wiring in my 82 280TE does away with the pre-resistance units and has a line connector that joins wiring between the ECU, diagnosis socket, fuse box and coil.

Problem solved

Thanks again for your efforts.

I was able to fix the problem this morning. The lines that weren't connected were the power line from terminal 15 in the fuse box, and a power line to the diagnostic terminal. These two wires get hooked together at a connection post along with a power wire to the engine control unit. So, it was indeed a no-spart situation.

The image below shows the correct ignition wiring diagram for a 1982 280TE (at least this is how my car was wired).
