I found it very difficult to get information on replacing my ECU with another one that wasn’t brand new. Everyone seemed to say something different on if it was possible, how it would be possible etc. So I decided to share my experience with changing the ECU and what I had to do.
I have a 2002 Mercedes c240 (w203) with a six speed manual transmission. My ECU got wet and the car would not even try to turn over. I had power but that was it. I did some googling and figured out it was the ECU. I went to a u pull it scrap yard and got another ECU from a wrecked Mercedes for $40.00
You HAVE to make sure the ECU your trying to use has the same part number on it. It’s the number on the top of the barcode on the ECU. I took the old ECU and new ECU and opened them both up. There is an immobilizer chip that you have to remove from the old ECU and swap the chips so that the new ECU has the old immobilizer chip in it. And that’s it. The used ECU works with no programming or anything. Here is the link to the video I watched to learn how to change the immobilizer chip.
I hope this helps someone else!

What @Deplore is saying is that this works on YOUR C240 because it uses ME2.8 (as does the C320, C55 and other M112 and M113 engine). Other engines like the M271 (C230) , or any of the M272 (xx230 V6, xx280, xx300, xx350) or M273 (xx450, xx550) engines use different ECUs and this does not work on those. Also, since your donor ECU likely came form another C240, no coding was needed. Had it come from another model (say a C55) it would have needed coding.

BTW, this is chip is not really "THE immobilizer". The car has no singe "thing" that is an immobilizer. It has a whole system of things that validate the key and allow the ECU to decide that it is valid. This chip is just an EEPROM that contains the VIN and the valid hash codes for the keys. But as @Deplore pointed out, it does nto contain the "coding" for you ECU.

all mercedes tuning is the same for the same engine size and injectors , they use same ecm and tune on like 20 different models

Good day guys. Its with a loss at success I ended up on this post. Ive got a W203 C180, with a M111.951 engine. to cut a long story short, ecm cannot come out of open loop, o2 sensor constantly reads 450mV, even removing it with engine at operating temp, scanner still reads 450mV. No error codes even with o2 sensor removed. I cannot afford to have it reprogrammed, and super desperate to get the car going for transport reasons. This is my ecm

And this is the donor ecm

Would this procedure work for me? Please advise..im really desperate to get the car going
