I've searched the forum without success. Trying to find a place where I can buy a repair aka shop manual for the W163 (I have a 1999 ML430). Hoping for something in English, with good diagrams. Any suggestions/sources would be highly appreciated. (Next project is going to be rebuilding front end suspension). Thank you.

I had the same problem but for 2002 ML320, I found one from Russek publications but I'm not sure which variants are covered. It's fairly comprehensive but smaller format than Haynes so the pictures are not as clear but better then nothing.
There's a wide range if prices quoted on various web sites so it's worth shopping around, you might get a bargain.

Hi,

There is an online store in the UK that sells the service manual. I bought one for 2004 Volvo but have not bought one for the ML yet. The manual has good detail instructions.
You can get the manual by download it in PDF format or on a USB memory. I got mine in PDF. Below is the link.
There's a review on YouTube for the ML manual. It looks like the manual has good detail instructions like my Volvo.

Every now and then the MB CD/DVD that was their shop manual on disc shows up on eBay.

I was a beta tester for the V1 release. As a result I got the V1 release for free. I also bought the V2 release and like a fool loaned it out never to see it again.

Now the downside. It was setup to run in Win XP. I have not heard yet if anybody has tried it with Winderz 7-10. I also know that just .iso image can be mounted and used
from the V1 release. HoweverI do not know if that member is using XP or a later of Winderz to use it.

Idea for you to consider....thanks David

Noodles:

That's very interesting of you to mention.

I'd be willing to test it out, I suspect it will run on Windows 7. Both my business Lenovo Thinkpads run Win 7.

I also run Linux Ubuntu and it can mount an .iso easily. That's how we burn DVDs for video's is using Linux based burn programs to create or duplicate .iso images.

So, by that I'm thinking that even if Windows 7 won't run the older Win XP based program, if it's in .iso format, piece of cake for any Linux based OS to run it, or duplicate it.

On one of my laptops, my Thinkpad X200s I actually installed a 1 TB drive, and dual boot Win 7 / Ubuntu 15.04 with lots of storage room.

Anyhow, I'm happy to 'guinea pig' test in either mode.

Please let me know here, or PM me if this sounds good to you.

PS: Shameless plug for Linux OS: Any of you who are the least bit tech inclined on the computer front should take a moment to consider a totally free OS, that is privacy oriented and can be installed on any laptop or desktop.

There are many varieties of Linux, (think of: An Apple Mac, but free to buy & use -tons of free apps) but here is my choice:

www.Ubuntu.com

Plug finished.

There is a British published one by Brooklands - I have it its about a 7.5 /10.

Here:

Or you can get full online access (like a WIS Dealer layout) at:

www.AlldataDIY.com which a lot of repair shops use they cover all makes except BMW & Mini.

I just signed up for my ML500 & my son's Mitsubishi Lancer.

Mitsubishi usually lack repair manuals for some reason.

But this online access gives same exact as a MB or Mitsubishi Dealer mechanic gets you can print each repair procedure or diagram.

I love paper repair manuals (old school) but online is how most are done today.

In a pinch if you ask what you're needing there are several guys here with MB WIS access and they'll look it up & post for you !

Hope that helps.

Wallyo:

Nice resource !

I tried it from my smartphone.
On Firefox browser - I couldn't get the popup window about "chat with a mechanic now" to disappear.

Does it work better from a computer?

Thx - David

I have used this site in the past a little clunky but it is free and sometimes has what I need:

From a Windows computer I have had a pop up, appear that asks you to share on face book or another social media. If you do it stops, if you don't every time you go to a new page after closing it, it appears again. As to the "Mechanic" pop up that is new. I just went to the site it was small and on the lower left corner. Have not tried it on my Mac yet.

Have not used a pop up blocker with the site.
