Actually now I am thinking I will be looking at other models, perhaps old C or E class.
I realize you are the voice of reason about buying a Corolla, but I just can't! Since I won't use this car everyday, buying useed make sense tome, but I want something more fun/exciting than a Toyota, honestly, although again from a purely rational standpoint that would be the way to go. I am also considering Acura, Lexus, Infinity however, but I do like the styling of these old (2000s) Mercedes.

Thanks @DEVOURS, yes, will stay away from the Bs. I want to learn to do basic maintenance and perhaps small repair like changing spark plugs, but I don't think I will DIY anything major.

I will probably make my the purchase in ~ 2 weeks, and will update my post after I do.
