I have a silver 04 E500 Sport with the blue all around glass. I was wondering if that was actually blue glass or if it was a blue tint. The reason I want to know is that I am interested in getting window tints out here in Arizona. Does anyone have any pictures of blue glass that was tinted or have any comments? does the tint color come out the same as regular glass? does it turn to a different ugly color? does it come out nice? pictures? Are there any options I should consider?

Thanks

The glass is PPG blue and the tint is made into the glass and reacts to sunlight using the same technology as those sun glasses that were so popular back in the day.. It's perfectly safe to tint on top of this glass. Its kinda cool because even after you tint, the darkening effect still works so You don't really need to go very dark.. The tint specialist recommendation is a good one.
HEre is a pic of a C230K that I used to have with the same glass.

I got limo dark in 5 windows and one shade lighter on the 2 front side windows. Life long guarantee if the tinting ever comes off, scratches, fades, bubbles or anything else. He even pulls it off if I ever get a fixing ticket and after the ticket is signed off, he puts new ones on, also life long guarantee. And all that done in 2 hours for only 145 Dollars. The guy did n awesome job, 0 bubbles, streaks or anything else that would mess it up!

My car used to have tint on it, but the place who tinted it said you shouldnt put tint on Mercedes E-Classes because they already have double thickness glass, and with the tint, after you put the windows down the tint starts to get scratched and damages the motor that winds down the windows. Hope this helps

You're partially correct. The guys that apply the film have to have experience with MB. They need to make allowances for the scraping scenario. Not sure of the details but I had a quality application on my '04 with no problems.

The Tint Shops are supposed to do some rubber treatment when Tinting M-B's to ensure no scratching, it's something you should ask when getting the Tint quote.

Also, E's are not double plated from what I understand, I mean it doesn't even feel double plated. Even if it was, I don't see why that would be a problem at all for Tinting  S-Classes with actual double plated glass get Tinted all the time

I got a quote for 35% tint on everything but the front and the shop said $325 they use a film from 3M that blocks out 48% of heat. They also have a new type of film that blocks out 78% of heat that costs $650. The price of tinting my taillights and break light- $125

Are these good prices for Arizona? Its a shop in Scottsdale I think its called film solutions. I got the number from my Mercedes shop- Raintree.

Hm,

like I posted before, I paid 145 Dollars and this one is just super work and super material I think. The car is significantly cooler, no scratches, no bubbling, just nice! I don't think you will drive to San Diego just to get your car done, but otherwise I can PM you his contact information.

I don't think it matters how thick it is. The extra .010" for the tint will not cause any issues. The only reason the tint scratches is the strip at the bottom doesn't have felt on it, and is rather rough. I know on the C-class, there is an item called moleskin that they install to keep the tint from scratching.
