Hi all,

The rear left window on my 450SLC is stuck down, I think the motor is shot.

Without having to replace the motor just yet how can I get the window back up??

Cheers

Use sawzall to access motor/window assy., use hammerdrill/drill to operate window assy., viola, window up.
Seriously, I would remove the panel and roll the window up manually, or with a drill and a flex shaft driver.

The motor is probably fine. More than likely, the window is somehow stuck or off of the 'track'. You will not be able to move the window w/out first disconnecting the motor but, once you've gotten to that point you're not far from having it fixed properly. I've taken several apart. There are some little pieces that like to loosen up and get lost in the window cavity over time.

Both of mine don't go all the way down. Do they go all the way down when working properly?

Do you have pics? Lots of detailed pics. Thanks

Yes, they both go down completely. One of the reasons the car was designed w/ a louvered windows was so that the rear side window could in fact roll all the way down. If the window was the the size of the present one plus the louvered portion, it would not roll all the way down due to the wheel hump.

I don't have detailed pictures really. I have some photo's that I took when I disassembled my 500SLC. You can find some stuff here:

Steve Guilford's Photo Gallery - Home

where there's a gallery full of restoration photo's. You may find something useful there. I remember most of it though so if you have problems, fire away.
