This information about the complex dual battery system might be of interest to R230 owners.

Also added is the external circuit diagram of N82/1 which controls the battery system.

You know these days that you can pickup an SL for not much more than a CLK, right? Well, at least here in the USA - not sure about your side of the pond. Thanks for the docs anyhow!

2008 R230: Does the "red battery" icon indicate that the BCM is bad? Or can the BCM need replacing whether or not the red battery icon appeared? My repair shop says I need the BCM replaced but I never saw the red battery icon. This was recommended after I couldn't start the car. They claim it had a dead battery because of a bad BCM. Typically, my experience with a weak battery has been a slow start warning. This time I had no warning, just a "single" click sound when I tried to start it. Any ideas?

Thanks

In my case it was just a blown 100A fuse that sits on the battery control module. It is located in the passenger footwell, behind the Bose subwoofer (that is behind the carpet). Worth a try as a used BCM is $450 on eBay....
Thank you for the quick reply. My BCM is in the trunk and the fuse is next to the trunk battery. That fuse is good. This same thing happened two years ago and I installed a used BCM. It didn't last long. Not wanting to gamble again, I purchased a remanufactured BCM for $600. Hopefully it will last longer. Thanks.
