I've heard you can put an OM605 head and OM605/606 pistons and connecting rods on an OM602 is this true? and if so why would you do it?

The OM602 shares common DNA with the OM605 as does the OM603 with the OM606.

BUT, the OM605 and 606 are very rev happy twin cam engines that go to at least 5250rpm stock while the OM602 and 603 are single cam motors that have all the torque down way low and are out of breath by 4500 rpm.

Why you'd want to swap internals is beyond me. If you want the twin cam motor, just buy the car that had the twin cam in it. Saves a lot of hassle, money and headaches.

it is possible.
Have a friend in Turkey that did that exact swap, as far as i understood him they have some weird rule that you are not allowed to swap the engineblock in a car to something else, and thus, his only option was putting om605 rods+pistons in a om602 block, aswell as om605 head.

Allegedly he had to do some minor modification to the head and headgasket to get the waterflow running correctly, but besides that it worked good.

The om605 "breathes" better, and have some umph up top, and the answer to differences isnt as simple as top vs low, comparing the om603 turbo against the om606 turbo, the om606 is a lot more downlow torque (atleast both of mine i daily drove a while changed gear at 4500rpm, and the turbo was more or less done by that rpm, compared to my om603 turbo w124 witch reved happily on another 1000rpm, but lacked a lot in down-low aggresiveness to the om606.

but that just my own experience with them, you are a bit fooled by the 146 vs 176 HP and thus not a completely fair comparison.

Problem in the US is that you didnt get the om605 turbo as far as i know, got a friend in Sacramento wanting me to ship one, but freight kills it.

with a bigger turbo on the other hand both the om606/om605 and om603/om602 revs happily, but yes, the om606 seems to like higher rpm better.
