Hi all. My 2005 w209 uses the standard headlights. I'm thinking of upgrading them using those OEM LED light that's made for merc and supposedly to be error-free. One of my concerns is that the led headlight comes with a built-in fan to cool it off and the length of the light may potentially be too long for me to close the headlight cover. Even if it's not too long, my concern is that the light generated too much heat, and putting back the cover may restrict or reduce the cooling capability provided by the fan. Am I worrying too much? Is it a good idea to not put the headlight cover back? Haven't bought the light yet but I'm just curious whether anyone who has done it can share their experience. Thought? Comment? Many thanks.

Don't bother - you'll hate the light. It might look whiter, but LEDs in a halogen reflector lens will produce very dim and foggy-looking light. LED lighting is very difficult to retrofit. The light from the bulbs is very directional, so cars with factory LED lighting generally use bulb arrays and multiple lenses. Your best bet is to replace the headlights with projector-lens units and then use HID lights.
