Hi Guys

Being doing a bit of research, but seems to come up blank

I'm building a little project myself, and have set aside some money for the heart of my new beast.

Ideally, I would like to have a M120 V12, maybe stroked (if doable) for nice torque, and makes 550hp (reasonable?), dry sump.

So I was wondering if anyone know any place that can build a motor like M120 (i know there aren't many aftermarket options out there). Appreciate all the help ou there guys!!! :D

Crankshaft knife edged
Connecting rods,crankshaft,mains,pistons and valves
were glasspeened.
Precision 3 angle valve job, ported, polished and
chambers contoured.
Chromemoly wristpins and chromemoly connecting rods
Aluminum pistons with Deves piston rings and knurled
piston skirts with oil bosses added
Overbore .040"
More aggressive grind on camshafts
Copper headgaskets
and a little this and that

Total cost $7800 + shipping

Ran fine, but fuel economy went south as to be expected. 0-60 was shaved significantly and throttle response throughout the range was top notch. I was unable to find a dyno at the time, as I lived in Alaska, but I'd say a modest 50-70 hp increase.

I am not too sure, but you can also use the intake camshaft of the W202 C36, for the M120, which is a little bit more aggressive (lift and duration).

The C36 pistons might be cheaper from OEM suppliers than the MB OE pistons.

I wonder if the 7.3 M120 had a "stroker" crankshaft, or was it just the pistons from the C36 that bumped the displacement, as the 600cc variance from the 3 liter to 3.6, as those x2 = 1.200, from 6 liter to 7.2 liter?

It seems to me completely possible that all there is to the 7.2,7.3,7.4 engines is the usage of C36 parts after strocking. Even in the zonda. AMG "tuned" that engine.. as they have worked on the M104 to make that C36 engine.. why not use those parts again.
That opens a nice door for DIY mods.. M120 owners could go out there and, if doable, switch camshafts for example for a more aggressive tuning

Plan on spending $50k or forget about it. Silicone and aluminum are not easy to work with. Get in touch with Atec Motorenbau, if you speak German. You also might want to think about how you're going to get air to all that motor. My S74 never had enough air or fuel--even with the RENNtech ECU's. You also have the trans and cooling system to think about. Good luck!

He's right about this! Air and fuel delivery are essential
Cooling could be an issue if you plan to drive it hard for more than a few secondes
Trans mods: if I remember well Renntech offers a complet Tranny rebuild to withstand 800hp/1000nm torque or something around this for 3000$

Mb_Fahrer what does you air intake system look like now? I'm definitly annoyed about the OEM air filters and don't want to go K&N

This may be total nonsense, but I'm sure I read somewhere that the M104 3.6 engines started life as 2.8 and essentially used the crank from the om606 engine to stroke the capacity to 3.6.

The 3.6 in the w124 also had porting and polishing from the factory.

I would imagine AMG could still do a conversion. After all, they were still selling the m120 7.3L to Pagani until last year, and probably still support those engines in terms of spare parts.
