So, i'm trying to replace my lower ball joints.
I've managed to get the calipers, upper control arm, and tie rod off. I have even gotten the lower ball joint nut off and the spindle rotates freely on the lower ball joint.
How do i separate the spindle/lower ball joint from the lower control arm? Usually, these things practically drop out or are easily coaxed with a few taps of a hammer.
With the lower ball joint nut off, i have hammered the heck outta the thing while using penetrating oil and it has done NOTHING. The shaft of the lower ball joint has somehow fused itself to the lower control arm. Unfortunately, this is for both sides. What am i missing here? I already used a BFH, bent a pickle fork, and penetrating oil.
If i use a blow torch, what to i heat? Maybe an air hammer next? Maybe use an angle grinder and cut the lower ball joint and the shaft protruding through the lower control arm off, then drill the remainder of the shaft out?
Maybe unbolt the shock and lift the car and try to get the coil spring to pop it out? Thoughts?
