Hi everybody i just bought 2003 Mercedes E320 with good deal
after one week i felt bad because i lost all my keys
i went to the stealership he told me that you have to two the car to the dealer shop (150 $ towing for me becaus ei live far from the shop)
plus 275 $ which total will cost me 420 $
i looked up about 3 days to find out new way to go out of dealer :
cam i change the ignition cylinder lock
i watched video on you tube how to take it off

if i get it off i can get new one from ebay with 125 $

Of course it will work. The key will turn the cylinder.

However, the new key and cylinder won't talk to the DAS, so nothing is going to happen when you turn the key. Also, the key won't operate the doors or alarm.

There's no real easy way around it. Nor an inexpensive one.

How is it going to be programmed? The key and cylinder you buy will be coded to work with the car from which it was removed.

Otherwise you could take any key and unlock any car with it.

A used key is only good with the car for which it was originally coded. They can't be reprogrammed. You only have two alternatives: buy a new key (actually, do the SMART thing and buy TWO, see if they will give you a discount, otherwise you're likely to find yourself in this boat again!) or buy the lock cylinder, key and DAS-associated items -- which includes the ECU (plus you'll still need a second key) from the donor car. My guess is the cost of the latter idea will cost you lots more than just buying the keys for yours.

You haven't said where you are, but try contacting a regional rep and see if they can do something to help since you're nowhere near a dealer.

Good luck.

Even without being a professional you can always use the search tool. ;)

DAS: Drive Authorization System. It's the heart of the security for the car.

Please, just trust me. Read up and abandon your idea, unless you're in a third-world country where you can buy the whole car in the wrecking yard for a pittance so you can be sure at some point you can change all of the parts you'll need to change.

Good luck.

There is no good reason to tow the car to the dealer. All you should need is to take evidence that you own the car and the vin #, like a registration card, and any dealer should be able to order the key. They generally get the new key overnight. Of course, you will have to return to the dealer to pick up the new key. They may want the car so they can confirm that the key works, but I have bought several without having the car at the dealer. You can use the closest dealer. I have even bought keys through an independent mechanic that has a relationship with a dealer.

Nelbur, that changed earlier this year. Dealers don't have discretion and are required to have the car present.

OP, contact mbusa. They may be able to help you avoid having to tow the car.

MB USA changes the key/security items policy every few years and dealers add their own policy on the top of that, so our experience might not match what you will experience.
I would shop around. I was buying key for $162 about 2 years ago and nobody check the car presence. Key worked straight from the box.
But the rumors says the policy changed again. Call around. How many dealers you have within 1 hr drive? I have at least 5, so maybe I am blessed, maybe not, but it works for me.

........nope. A ignition module is hard coded to the car VIN.

If you want to be successful in doing that, then you need to find a ECU, EIS and key from the same car as your car (because what car it came out matters) and then install those in your car....then it will start.

But given that you say you have a 2003 W210... then that's a wagon.

There aren't too many 2003 W210 running around to begin with, and even fewer of those are on the chopping block.

FWIW, complete ECU/key/EIS set costs $500-600 or so. You're better off buying new keys.
