I need to lubricate the sunroof because it is getting a little rough and sticks in a couple of spots when going back and forth and going up and down. How do you lubricate the roof and what do you use to lubricate it?

I take a can of lithium grease with an application tube, y'know, like a coffee stir-stick, and put a little on each chrome rail. There's one on each side. For the up/down aspect, there are what appear to be guide rails, plastic ones, which you can see once the roof is back all the way.

I've only had speed issues with sliding, not tilting, though, so this may be something else.

It could be the motor hitting a weak spot. I hope not, but it can happen.

Awesome, I've been living with this issue for over 2 years. I never remember to mention this when I bring it in to the dealer, but now, it works perfectly, as does the 'close all' feature with the recirc button.

If after cleaning all the rails you can access and it still is sticking, you can try and adjust the roof motor clutch,, Im sure there is a post hear on how to do it... will fix a lot of sunroof problems, just do a little at a time, with care.

Oh...got it.

Clever. This way it's much less likely to be accidental.

i did a full rebuild on my W123 sunroof, and know these things pretty well. mine is sticky, just a bit.

if your sunroof is not moving well, the first thing you need to do is ensure all the guide widgets are in excellent condition. Anything called 'sliding jaw' in EPC is a good start. The parts are cheap and the teardown isn't that complex.

pull it all apart, clean it thoroughly, reassemble using the gleitpaste I posted above.

I recently had trouble persuading mine to open and realised it was caused by the rubber seals sticking to the roof edges. I cleaned the metalwork & then used a silicone spray, applied with a cloth, on the rubber seals. Took the opportunity to lubricate the rails etc. as suggested here - works fine now.
