My 2001 ML320 just died this morning while taking my son to school!!! It will not turn over at all. Over the summer we had the CSP replaced so I know its not that, the battery is new, so I know its not that. Can any body suggest any other obvious things? I had to have it towed to a shop and they are going to do a diagnostic on it but I liked to have some idea of what it may be before hand.

Thank you

A LOT of people have had issues after they install a new battery because the cables weren't put back on tight enough.

See if you can wiggle either of the battery cables, BUT NOT BOTH AT THE SAME TIME!!!

uninformed opinion:
imho first thing to check is voltage of battery -and headlight brighness (which would verify continuity)

if that looks good consider the interlocks on the starter.... car must not be in gear etc - try wiggling the steering and moving thru the gears - try to crank on neutral
maybe try a forum search for other stuff to check....

what is going on on the dashboard? any clicking sounds when you turn the key? from whence?

Mechanic said the fuel pum and sensor needs to be replaced and the water pump is on its last leg. He also said that my power steering pump and hoses need to be replaced all for a small fee of $2,500.00 YIKES!
So, it was turning over, just not starting;)

New fuel pump should take care of fuel gauge reading you have mentioned in your intro.

I thought the price was VERY high but its a chain so I know the mark up is high. I have looked on here for instructions and found some details on how to change the fuel pump and I will do the same for the water pump and the power steering. My husband was able to change my CPS sensor so I know he can handle it. Thanks for mentioning the fuel filter - will do. Do you think I should also have the MAF chaned or cleaned while he's at it? I have read a little about them on this forum and not sure if and when I may need to deal with that.
