FUSE CHART

Hey is there a fuse chart somewhere I can take to the local auto parts and purchase the correct fuses? I am having a window problem, took a look at fuses, some are still the silver type. I read where they should all be changed out for the copper type. Need a chart for 1980 450sl.
Thanks, BB:confused:

The 25A fuses would be blue. All others white.

On later cars, Fuse 11 (rear window defroster) is 16A (Red). I just used the Chiltons numbers, but they could be wrong for one or two circuits. Safer perhaps to use a red 16A fuse for that circuit. However for most circuits, 8A is correct.

On later cars, the amperage was depicted on the fuse card using symbols or colour. But on earlier ones, the amperage was on a colour coded strip that fits behind the fuses inside the fuse box. Does your car have such a strip? It would have the correct amperages for your car and we wouldn't have to make the leap of faith that Chiltons is correct.

These are the strips from my slightly later 1972 350/450SL:

ADDED: If anyone else owns or knows of an early 044 350/450SL delivered in 1971 wit windup windows, it would help Rachel if the fuse strips and fuse card could be posted.

I came across this site (from Sweden?) It has a picture of a 350SL fuse box. Fuse sizing is a bit confusing but it seems similar to the one ENGR693 posted earlier.

This indicates that fuses 3,4,7,11,20 should be 16A (Red), fuse 5 (blue) 25A and all rest (white) 8A .

Doesn't really make sense that radio would need 16A fuse unless other items come off same fuse and the radio has it's own fuse. But that's two 1972 fuse boxes with same strips.

Can anyone explain the fuse sizing used above?

Looks like the strips are there. They should indicate the size of fuse for each spot.

By the way, those fuses need replacing anyway! You should buy replacements that have copper or brass ends. Some shops have them, otherwise eBay usually has several auctions.

Early in the Fuse Compendium, there are a number of fuse cards posted for the 72 350SL. (That is same car that I have). The cards have a part number at the bottom and it seems there were several as the specs changed during the model year. For example 1075450000 or 1075450200 for the 350SL.

One problem with the fuse cards, is that they don't all specify the fuse size. Some do via series of symbols at the bottom. There are also color coded cards behind the actual fuses. There is a picture of mine and one or two others in the compendium thread.

Unfortunately we have two fuse threads here on BW. Try this one, it is where we tried to collect all the fuse charts:

Anything would be. I am in the US but the car is original minus the stereo. So I have no idea where to get the fuses other then ordering online. Which is fine. But the panel doesn’t say the amps either. Dad tried to fix taillights since he got the car and couldn’t. I’m a little more stubborn then him.

You have found your forum. I know next to nothing besides what i’ve been learning on this forum. I knew how to change oil and brakes but that’s it and what I have learned on this forum has been invaluable and for the most part everyone is super nice and willing to give advice even with stupid questions. Good luck and my only tip is to find and use the advanced search, it’s my best friend. I mean you found this old thread so you probably already know about it but just avoid the “community search”, imo
