Has anyone upgraded their command system to the newer version?
If so, can you please tell us what this upgrade is about and what has changed?
Thank You

I was getting on here to discuss issue I am having with command so I will drop a line here to fill you in since I have had 3 software upgrades and 2 physical units in the last 4 months.

Current Command upgrade adds live bluetooth audio streaming. some better recognition of newer phones, some better contact management and some "significant" maintenance upgrades. (intermittent backup camera, loss of certain audio components "device not available" error.) and a few more.

Now I got BT audio with an update in October or november. it also appeared to add more POI to the nav system but that may not have been part of the command upgrade as much as the new hardware I got too.

i have not seen a master list but this is what I have discovered from my experience and the service guy's explanation.

hope that helps

I have BT and it works great. I have an application called zumocast on my iPhone. It connects my computer to my iPhone and then by Bluetooth I can play all the songs straight from my computer into the car. I never have to transfer all my songs to any device from my PC. I can change or view songs that are on my computer at home right on the cars screen too which I find it very neat. It cost me 200$ to get the BT (media interface plus).

COMAND Update 2010 E350 P2

Today, the local dealer updated the COMAND software under warranty on my 2010 E350 P2 (USA). I explained that even though the BT Audio worked after the initial iPhone authorization, the BT Audio would not recognize my iPhone4 (5.1.1) as a BT Audio device after I had turned off the car and returned later. After a hint of hesitation, I showed the Service manager a copy of a service receipt from a fellow forum member indicating it had been done to his 2011 E350 under warranty. Magic - no more hesitation. He checked and came back with "Yes, there is an upgrade on this model". I can confirm that it now works perfectly.

Here is a copy of my receipt you can take with you in case you need a backstop at the dealer.

I have also attached a writeup about how I activated my BT audio in the COMAND system. You are free to use it as a guide, but I really just got all this from the internet, so please don't think of me as an expert on your system.

No Logic7 after Comand software upgrade

Hi, My dealer upgraded the software in my 2010 E550 to get me Bluetooth streaming.
That now works flawlessly but the volume is very low on all sources, even bluetooth phone. Also Logic7 does not work. I can select or deselect Logic7 but there is absolutely no difference in the sound no matter what input. My dealer is trying to be helpful but not very knowledgeable. When I told him that a software update would activate bluetooth streaming he refused to believe me until I showed him some posts from this forum...
Does anybody have an idea what's wrong here.

CD issue after Comand update

Just had my 2010 E550 Comand updated to the latest SW. Purpose was to get BT streaming installed. After the update, the tech said it was not available in 2010 models. I had to show him the engineering mode (which he was not aware of), and the BT now works great.
But one strange thing happened and I'm hoping someone here can help. The CD player now has a 1-2 second pause when changing tracks. I have carefully recorded CDs made at home with continuous play tracks that played perfectly in the system prior to the update. The sound is fine, and all tracks play, but the interruption between tracks in very annoying. Talking to the dealer has gotten me nowhere. No equipment was changed so I'm sure this is a firmware or a SW setting issue. I looked through the engineering mode but could find nothing that seemed to reference this issue. Would appreciate any thoughts on this, or ideas about who to ask next.
Thanks

Upgrade issue

My car is still within warranty. My story to them was the BT phone connection would randomly drop calls (sort of true), and I needed to listen to conference calls while driving (actually true). So the BT option was necessary and would require the upgrade. I think the dealer needs to be given some kind of issue, whether it's functional problems, or service necessity to get MB to pay for the warranty service. Hope this helps.

That's ridiculous. They should be glad you pointed out to them how to do it. I'm getting the impression that the electronic technical know-how at some of these dealers is seriously lacking. I'd like to pursue contacting the regional managers for MB, and let them know of my dissatisfaction with the service concerning the Comand system. I'm going in for a service visit tomorrow to show them my issue, and I think the regional representative card may be a good one to play.

I have read similar problems with Comand unit right after software upgrade . Solution was according to what I read to have your dealer revert back to 2nd software , not the latest version because latest version has some bugs , 2nd version is the version that comes after factory set up
Hope this fixes your issues

Thanks for the reply. You're probably right for the short term solution, but will that remove the BT audio option that did not come with my original unit? I need to find that balance with having the BT option, and correct CD playback settings.

Additionally, is there some way to inform someone higher up the MB chain about these bugs? I would imagine the dealer could do it, but it's probably not a very high priority item for them (the dealers). One would presume MB would welcome user feedback concerning their products.

So my only option is to be thorn is the side of the dealer until something improves.

interesting wrinkle

I took my MY11 - W212 E-350W4 (Wagon) to the dealer for its 40k checkup (still under original warranty) and asked them to perform the update (I have an early build 2011 and it has the same software and hw version that others without the update have posted pictures of). The wrinkle is that for my VIN and model the TSBs about this issue don't reference my car and the update DVD doesn't either, due to it being a wagon and having different model and VIN notations.

My issue is that my Android phone will do BT handsfree and audio but with some glitches with the audio side, but my wife's new iPhone is having fits and every once in a while drops handsfree and has volume issues with the phone side and is also glitchy (pauses or disconnects while playing music).

My service rep is great and completely understood the issue but testing to confirm the issue may lead to them handing me back the keys post-service sans update as they aren't able to duplicate it with the iphone onsite (not surprising as sometimes it works just fine and can't fault a "if its not broken, why fix it" approach).

I made the effort to say I wanted the update even if I wasn't having this issue (which I am) and hopefully they will just take care of it, but it may be a stretch.

(I even tried to order the DVD to update the command system from the parts dept earlier last week and they originally sold it to me but when it was processed they cancelled may order as it was for service depts. only not owners/general consumers).

Got the car back and service rep says he upgraded system, here are some of the numbers from the engineering mode views:

Software Update = Production Version 00.24.00

3.1 Navi Core Information
(d)=SWDL 90.16.02
(e)= BT FW C0360
(f)=DSP FW 20090123D23F

3.19 HU Version = 10.05.00

Can anyone who can guarantee they had the update performed on their system compare numbers and let me know if they are the same (or if I need to go back armed with some more information)? Or any other screen in engineering mode that would be handy to compare?

Thanks in advance.

I am running Bluetooth Audio to my iPhone 5 on the original software. You just need a $100 part and then you can as well. I wanted it mainly because of the poor location for the iPhone cable on the 2011 model - now I love that I don't have to take the phone out of my pocket at all. It also gives you full playlist control. If you are interested I can post the info.

The Galaxy S5 is a later phone than the 5S, so the 5S should work with no issues.

It sounds to me like the phone itself has an issue attempting to pair with the device. Have you paired that iPhone 5S with another stereo as a test? Have you successfully paired another phone with your Comand system besides the Galaxy S5?

Hello guys...

I just purchased my 2010 w212 about two weeks ago.. I was bummed when I noticed that the BT AUDIO was not showing in the menu.. Did some reading online and discovered the "engineering menu" .. With lots of excitement I enabled it. But came to great disappointment as every time I would try to connect it would only display with "Authorization Unsuccessful"

Did some more research...

enabling BT AUDIO from engineering mode will allow you to externally authorize your phone, but what it does is, de authorize BT PHONE functionality.. In other words you can only have either or. I was testing all of this from my iPhone 6 so I knew the issue was not from my phone as it has the latest BT 4.0LE chip in it.

Called up the dealer and made an appointment. Got super lucky as I realized my car still had a cert pre owned warranty until next month. picked it up today and both Audio & Phone is working. :)

Point is,, It will only work with the software upgrade on the command unit...

...

Now I am trying to go couple steps further to get iPhone mirroring onto the unit.. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate that allot.

Thank you

I just got the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and this phone pure and simply does not like to cooperate with the bluetooth in the COMAND. I do not believe my car had the COMAND firmware upgrade yet. First off, I can only successfully pair the phone to the COMAND deck only if all other authorized phones have been deleted from the list. Secondly, it works fine when it is initially paired. However, once I park the car, turn off the engine, and the bluetooth automatically disconnects, it will never connect again when I go to start up the car. The phone tries to connect to COMAND, but then the connection fails and an error message pops up on the phone screen that the phone was unable to communicate with the car's bluetooth.

The only way that I can get it to pair again is to unpair the connection from the phone with the car off, turn off bluetooth, then start the car and de-authorize the phone from the COMAND bluetooth. Once the phone is de-authorized, I can then turn on bluetooth on the phone and start the pairing process again from scratch. This is a ridiculous 5-10 minute process to have to go through every time you get in the car and want to drive somewhere and be able to make phone calls hands-free. It's not an issue with the handset because it works fine with a Pioneer head unit in my son's car, and works fine with bluetooth headsets and speakers. And I've paired and used a number of different phones for phone audio (bluetooth phone calls) and never had any issues, which started with the HTC Rezound and almost every version of Samsung phone (Galaxy S3, S4, S5, Note 2, Note 3, Note 4 and Note 5).
