CLS Rear Bumper Trim/Guard Piece Removal (2019+)

Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody knew if that piece that sticks out the back bumper on US-spec 2019+ CLS's could be removed? I'm not sure if there are sensors or something in it or if it's just cosmetic, as Euro spec cars don't have this piece.

Here's a pic of the piece I'm talking about.
