Doesn't your W123 already have the smaller, round fog lights (clear or yellow) inboard of the head lamps? Is it "Driving" lights you are after? A set of the Hella European 7" round headlights coupled with clear fog lights would light up the road really well w/o adding something that never was found on the car.

 

I do belive it was a comon option in europe for the under bumber Fog/driving lights, and ive seen a couple here in the U.S. i already have 7' H4 conversions and 5.25' clear fogs i just want the style, and the fact that you can put any H3 bulb in them.

 

I would just mount them under the front bumper like the R107 are mounted. Then I would replace your inner fog lights with a high beam driving light. Rewire the car so the fogs go on with the low beam and the center with the high beams. heres the link for high beam mod. http://www.jaimekop.com/240D/lights/

For Mb models such as 107, they do have standard/optional fogs under the bumper (as shown in photo) but for W123s, these are beside the main lamps (either Euro or USV).... unless you're to set up your 123 as rally car.....

 

My 450SL has the fogs, I've been pondering removing them. I think they look like wal-mart addons, but they are stock.

 

They are bosch fog lights. They came factory on many cars of the era. VW, BMW, mercedes. and porsches when I worked at an indy shop back in 80s we stock only the VW replacement as it was cheapest. Ocassionally some customer would not want the VW lens and we have to get the mercedes or porsche lenses (same lens differnt box) they were like twice the cost. So if you need to replace your mercedes lens it may be cheaper at VW dealership that is if they still stock them.

 

i would place the centre of the lamp directly below the innermost edge of the main beam
