AC Vent Removal?

Anyone know how to remove the AC vents in the dash? I had one vent control lever fall apart, and had it fixed under warranty. A few days ago, another one separated, and today ANOTHER one did it! What's happening is the three part horizontal lever that is used to aim the flow is separating into three pieces, gray on top and bottom, silver in the middle. I can't quite get it back together. If I could pull the whole unit out, I could glue it all back together.

Any suggestions?

Just wanted to follow up on this in case anyone else needs this info. I finally caved and took apart my dash to see how to take them out, and they are held in by snaps that will not let them out unless you push the snaps from the back side right against the inside of the dash panel. they could probably be pried out with a knife from inside the vent without taking the bottom of the dash off, but that would break the vent in all likelihood. if you need any more info let me know, also I'll post a picture of the snaps on the vent once I get my new vents in and go to install them.

ML350, 2007 Repair of center air vent

Thanks for the illustration. It helped with the removal. Now for those who wish to repair the vent instead of spending 175.00 and assuming you have all the pieces. Here are some guidelines. The chrome plastic piece in the front holds all the louvers together. Remove this one first and collect all the pieces / parts.
You should have a small black metal bar with 4 slots and one hole, controlling the up and down position of the louvers, a plastic cross bar with a slot in the center that controls the left and right louvers (in the back) a flat knob (two parts ) that snap together and a small spring that defines the center position of the louver. The failure point in my case was the flat knob in the center that you use to adjust the louver position. it separated and the rest fell apart. Think of it as a puzzle, the louvers are controlled by the small black bar that is held together in place from the louvers in alternate configuration left-right. Once you figure out how they interlink it is easy to put them back into their respective place and have an operational vent once again. I used super glue to secure the two pieces of the flat knob together and then the louvers one by one went back in their respective place. The entire operation took about 30 minutes. Hope this helps those who appreciate engineering and challenge in their lives. :)

I finally decided to tackle this today, and I'm mostly there. Got some nice pics too to post.
But it's a real bitch getting the metal bars to line up with the nubs on the horizontal slats.

I'm taking a break, I'll post the process once I figure it out.

I'm thinking you need to get the the top and bottom, and one with the handle 1st and then the other 2 will just snap in.
But I'm out of patience for now.

Well it's done! I basically used some Gorilla Tape to hold things on place while I put the 3 slats in and then snapped in the other 2.
DONE!
