Good afternoon gentlemen I wonder if anyone could help me I have a w210 E-class 430. And I have encountered some gearBox issues it seems to Have loads of shavings in the oil and it has lost drive when it gets hot So I have dropped the oil out of the gearbox and torque converter and was thinking about Putting fresh oil with a new conductor plate and filter obviously. But I think that won't cure it. Ive got the serial number off the box and ive sorced another box aswell but the serial numbers are different and was wondering if i could use the original bell housing and it will be plug and play. I'll try and attach some pictures and any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Not sure if a bearing has sorn out or what but it did drive faultlessly after a service 200 miles prior but as i say the oil is full of rubbish again.

Numbers starting with 203 is the part number. To be more accurate, it is the casing part number.
Numbers starting with 7226 is the actual transmission part number.
Numbers starting with 353 is the serial number.

Get the transmission from a V8 car. V6 transmission and lower have different internal ratios, V8 has different internal ratio, and the AMG's have different.

So another transmission from a E430, S430, S500, CL430, CL500....those are direct drop in.

Or match the 722696 with another transmission.

I rebuild these, but I see three issues out of the gate, but

1) The Brown!!! fluid maybe because the radiator cooler mixed with tranny fluid.
2) The fine aluminum and fine copper is the norm with the 722.6, and in 99% of the cases that is not the reason you lost drive.
3) The black speed sensor on the lower part of the conductor plate is ruptured or getting real close, but a total failure of the speed sensor will not cause you to loose drive, yet it will cause you to go into limp mode of 2nd and reverse, but never LOOSE drive.

Either bypass the cooler with a separate junk yard cooler. do a fluid exchange to remove ALLLL that fluid while shifting gears. It may be your last gambled option before a rebuild or replacement,, or have your tranny fluid checked for coolant contamination (it is a chemical test strip-call a transmission shop)
