Taking Apart Front Seat

I have a seam that tore apart on the top part of my front seat. I'd like to remove the top half of the seat or maybe just the cushion and leather and take it in for repair.

Does anyone know how and if the seat can be taken apart w/out removing it?

If you are talking about the backrest portion you can remove the leather cover although it really is optimal to remove the seat from the car. You have to first remove the hard back panel which is held in place with two screws at the bottom of the panel. Be careful when removing - it pulls down first - there are two plastic fingers that hold the round thingys on either side of the cover - they cover the seats recline hinges. They break off VERY easily and gluing them back is VERY difficult because of the plastic type. Remove the panel and you now have access to the internals. You have to remove the headrest - remove the two retaining clips at the bottom of the sliders then electrically move the headrest up. The rest is fairly complicated but you can do it if you study how the seat is put together. There is a black internal shell that keeps the shape of the seat. Also if you have heated seats you have to unclip that from under the seat. Ask around for a WIS - someone that has access should be able to provide the specific instructions.

Thanks for this, I was able do open the back and unhinge the leather. The bottom part of the backrest leather and cushion comes off but I can't get the leather off the top of the seat, it's wrapped all the way around the plastic shell and won't slide up.

Anyone have a WIS diagram or more info on this?

Would this be the same for a S550? To remove the back part of the seat?

I want to add the oem amg logo to the seat which has pins that go through the front of the seat and tighten from behind. My seats already have the perforated holes in them, and I'd liked to add these. I was told only the rear seat backs need to be removed?

I would do it for front and rear. Is this true and is this an easy job?

A little tricky? You're far too kind. ;) They are a PITA. It took me longer to remove those than it did to R&R the headrest motor (and resolder the contacts, a fairly common issue, particularly once it's been disconnected) and to pull the seat cover off. I only mangled the bottom part of them a little, so they were reusable, though.

Still...I'm guessing MB probably has a special tool that makes quick work of them, though I'm also sure it's not worth what they would charge for it unless you do this kind of thing all the time.

Good luck.

You don't need to replace those two connects when removing the back of he front seats. I broke both mine when pulling off the cover. I use a 2 part epoxy and placed the clips in place, epoxied the hell out of them then use duct tape to hold them down while drying. It worked great!! I actually let mine sit overnight and then did one more coat of epoxy, at $10 a bottle it was worth it. My rear seat cover fits tighter and the clips are stronger now!! Here's my problem. When I get the back cover off I have tried adjusting the cables and the seat release still doesn't work and I don't see how to get further into the back of the seat to get to the cables inside!! Anybody gone that far !?!?!? Help !!!
