Wide Body Kit on Euro Spec SEC

Hello Everyone,

I have decided to either fit a wide body kit or a custom body kit on my 560 SEC. The custom one would have been fabricated here in Dubai and would have been my first choice however unfortunately given the car will eventually get exported to go back home with me, I wanted something that I could find replacement parts for if ever needed.

Now my question is this:

Everyone is selling W126 2 door Wide Body kits in the US and I finally found a company after much hassle of agreeing to ship here to Dubai. All these sites are claiming on a scale of 1-5, 3 being the skill needed to fit the kit. Have spoken with a garage here to do the install + paint.

My confusion is that if Gen 1 and Gen 2 bodies are slightly different, how can this be tailored to either? Am assuming a lot more work would be needed to install it rather than if made to a specific gen?

My second but more important and concerning fitment question would be are these kits OK for a Euro Spec car? Or are they specifically designed for the US spec cars?

On the US spec cars, is it only the front and rear bumpers that are different? If the full kit is designed for the US spec, would at least the front and rear fender panels and side sills work? Or do they needed the valances to mold in perfectly?

Am now ready to order and shipping time is 6 weeks (only found company that would do ocean freight) but cannot order if the kit is designed for the US and not Euro spec?

Any info would be appreciated on this one.

Thanks a million,
Sam

Thanks Alberto, it's kind of weird that I've seen these kits offered nearly everywhere and found it very hard to find any info from people who have purchased and fitted them.

Thanks Luke Colorado, have seen a few of your posts on this kit and appreciation vs depreciation etc on the SEC. Can't say I am bothered on the depreciation since this isn't a vehicle I believe will ever be sold. If it does, whatever I get will be better than nothing.

From what I have seen is that the material used from these kits is flexible and can be slightly molded. So that leaves me with at least a starting point. Was told by a local garage how much to fabricate a one off but the downside is the 2 month time it takes but more importantly not being able to show them exactly what I need.

If the kit comes pre-done, then fitting and molding, adding and removing is not going to be such an issue.

If you know of any other kits which are not just the typical AMG kit, really interested to know. With regards to a wide body, not available over here and the fun is in modding the car, not buying a stock one for me.

Any input on the fitment on US vs Euro would be much appreciated Sir.

Thanks, Sam

I'm going to say it one more time and then I will drop an "I told you so" when you post what a disaster the kit is when it finally arrives.

Here goes...

By the time they make the kit, ship it to you, and your shop fights with it to get it fitted many *months* will have passed and in that time you could have had something original and custom done already. That's not to mention the fragility of the cheap fiberglass you will probably receive that will not hold up on the street, let alone in transit back to the States.

I've owned a lot of body kits and I've worked with these kinds of companies. Their prices are alluring, but what they make is crap. Try to find ONE, just ONE, picture of the kit you will be purchasing fitted to an actual car and then report back.

Good luck.

There was a forum member who made a replica AMG kit which I think was pretty good quality. Other than that, no. The car is 25 years old.

Metal box flares aren't rocket science. Find a Zender, AMG, or Lorinser kit on ebay and have your shop flare the fenders in metal. That's what I'd do. There are some NOS Zender parts on Australia eBay right now.
