The only reason the LHS and rear-view mirrors dim during the day is because you have your headllghts on. If they were set to AUTO or off, they would not dim. And, the reason the RHS mirror doesn't dim is, the LHS mirror is flat, so the reflected headlights can be about the size of a dime, but because the RHS mirror is convex, the same image would be about one third that size, therefor not as blinding.
