I know the genuine Mercedes branded coolant is blue, and the approved Zerex G-05 is peach color. I just had my coolant flushed and refilled at a shop specializing in foreign and domestic vehicles, they say they use the "Correct Coolant". I looked, and it is green. Out of the three colors, I would have rather found blue or peach. Is there any green coolant that is approved for these cars? Otherwise, I will have the coolant replaced again!! I know that using the right coolant isn't hard, but for some people it can be. If these guys used regular green (propylene glycol) antifreeze, I will be unhappy. I have sent them an email also, asking about this. I shouldn't have to... I am just hoping that there is a green that is approved?

Thanks Witek, I thought I was covering all the bases having it changed, but although they are saying they use a coolant that is "all car" approved, I think that I'll wait a week or two then drain and fill with distilled water, ...do that two or three times then get the Zerex G-48. Why not G-05? I paid them $150 so I wouldn't have to bother doing it myself. They should know that I am very picky. That coolant recovery tank is about 40 bucks at RockAuto, HELLA 376705721 {#1645000049} Behr Service. Would that be the original animal?

HI,
OK so I took the SUV to a shop that specializes in Foreign & Domestic."
I said Flush and Fill with new antifreeze. They said, "essentially it's a drain & fill." I said, As long as 100% of the antifreeze is all NEW when I pick it up.
"Certainly, sir."
Once I got it back home, I noticed the color is green, when MOST Mercedes use a Blue or a Peach colored antifreeze. However, the Prestone folks make a "Universal" antifreeze that is green.

So, I figured it's OK, and it probably was just fine.
BUT, wanting things perfect, I asked on Benzworld whether I should use that green stuff or switch. Was advised to use ZEREX G48 which is blue. I have always used ZEREX G-05 which is peach colored, in all my Benzos. ZEREX is made by the wonderful guyz at Valvoline. Love their products, always have.
Realizing that when I picked up the SUV, the heater controls had not been changed from their initial settings: A/C, 67 degrees.... meaning they had not run the car, heat it fully, with heater on, to flow coolant in and out of the heater core.
So I had paid them $165 to drain the radiator and pour in a gallon or two of coolant...without letting the stuff in the heater core get circulated and flushed...
So I figured OKAY I am gonna get nine gallons of Distilled water, then DRAIN the radiator which in this car removes about 85% of the total coolant. Fill with Distilled water, then drive a bit with the heater on, then park, cool, DRAIN again,
Repeat. That is three drainings, I believe.
Finally, drain and fill with Brand new ZEREX G48 which I bought 2 gallons at $20 a gallon.
Call it a Wrap!!!
Thank you Jesus.

THEN I went on Valvoline's website where they list all their products, oils, antifreeze, etc.
Clicked on ZEREX G48 and read about it a bit.
Saw a link "Click Here" see if it is good for your car!
Followed that, it said NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re-Lit my joint.
Saw a link to "Chat" with our specialist!
Clicked that. Got a guy named Nathan. Happy about that since the Amazon Rep I dealt with earlier today, was named Mohammed!!!!
Nothing personal, it's just that the amazon guy seemed to be just humoring me, and I doubt the problems we discussed will change...
Yes, it's a messed-up whirled.
Anyhow, Nathan says G48 is good for 2011-2013 Mercedes SUV's ONLY!
Like, What?!
I should use ZEREX G-05, he said.. Okay then. Nathan is the specialist at Valvoline, so I'm guessing that he should know their products better than anyone.
Went back out, drained again, filled with distilled water....drove around the block ten times.
Drained again. Left it draining while I went to buy a gallon of ZEREX G-05. I already had a gallon, but knew it will take about 1.8 Gallons to fill this SUV.
By now my empty tank for used recycling of antifreeze, holding 5 gallons, is full. Luckily I have more than one.
Filled with G-05 Newly bought gallon, and 0.8 Gallon of my G-05 I had in the garage.
Call it a wrap!
So. Expenses:
Shop Screw Job.....165.00
Zerex G48..............40.00
Zerez G-05..............20.00
The balance of the G-05 I had from previous purchases, was still unused, so it has a many years shelf life.
I will say here that it's likely that any or all of these antifreeze products could have stayed in the system for around four years and performed just fine, but havin g bought this vehicle in July and systematically gone thru all the maintanance that I can find to do, I wanted it to be perfect.
So this whole thing could have cost about 20.00 had I just done it myself. They are very similar antifreezes. Anyhow, it has got some beautiful ZEREX G-05 in there now, and with all the draining and refilling, the system should be happy about getting so much attention.
Almost brings to mind the time my 1991 Chevy pickup was so mint, having been gone thru by me for a month after purchase, the ONLY thing left on it that wasn't perfect, was the glove box latch. So I went to the local auto wrecking yard to look for a latch and BOOM got totaled in their parking lot by a flatbed semi trailer carrying 8 crushed cars that was backing up without looking, and crashed into my minty pickup truck! Of course, I got $2500 to replace my pickup outa that, and $17,000 for my aches and pains while the lawyer and doctors each got about $25,000
Now it is 630PM and I have been draining antifreeze all day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The ZEREX G-05 and I think all ZEREX, is guaranteed good for 5 YEARS or 150,000 MILES!
Thank God. Cause that's enough of that for me!
