I have posted 3 short clips on how to replace the actual door handles which may assist. Note this is useful AFTER you have removed the door panel. see the other clips in youtube for how to remove the door panel.

I found it easier to remove the door panel entirely. I photographed the electrical cables BEFORE I disconnected them all and it helped when I plugged all back in. In mine (2006 E280), I did not NEED to unscrew the door lock button. It was a little fiddley to re-insert when the door panel was being put back on. Otherwise, it was not too difficult.
I bought a narrow paint scraper to ply off the small plastic panels on the door. I also had a small Lever / Jimmy Bar to pry off the clips when I took the door panel off. See Videos for further details which may help.
