Hello again,

The halogen projector headlights on my W211 2004 E 270CDI (non xenons) are pointing far too low.

The foglamps are fine. However, the low beams point where the fogs are pointing and the high beams point where the low beams should ideally point. So, the headlights, though bright enough are not travelling sufficiently into the distance.

Have searched the forums for the manual adjustment and not been able to get a clear result.

Have posted a pic below with the knobs marked A, B & C. Would be greatful if someone could tell me which knob does what. (Tried turning a couple of rounds on each, nothing happens). Also, should'nt there be a 4th knob...couldn't find it?

Oh yeah, the vacuum wheel in the dash works fine and is set to the highest ( I think that would be zero).

in short, how do I adjust the headlights to point a bit higher?

Thanks in advance.

Mohnish.

If I have got this right then your headlamps are adjusted using DAS and a beam setter. So if you adjust them manually then they will revert to the original setting as soon as you start the engine and switch the lights on.

Thanks Eric,

Now you've got me thinking!!!

If it is as you say, that can be sorted out with a call to the dealer, which I shall do first thing Monday...

However, I am inclined "believe" its is a manually adjusted system on account of the following:

(a) My vehicle is not a US spec. Its possibly the UK spec (RHD) with a slight increase in the ride height to manage the bad road conditions.

(b) They are not the self levelling type.

(c) Those three knobs on top...they remind me of the W210s which had the manual adjustment donbe by turing similar knobs.

Thanks again, will post as I progress.

SOLVED !

A bit of research and the results for anyone in my situation:

The knob marked "B" in pic (post #1) above has a phillips screw inset which if turned alters the vertical setting of the low beams.

The knob marked "C" in pic above which if turned alters the vertical setting of the high beams.

I don't know what knob "A" does !

I foung that knob A is for horizontal. Its right and left setting.

I just received a 2003 e320 with the projector style headlamps (w211 maybe ) that my father in law had employee install before giving us the vehicle. The low beams only shine about 8 to 10 feet infront of the car and I have yet to find anyway to raise them. Originally I thought they were installed incorrectly since you could push the light up and down but now I am not sure what is going on with them .. I thought I had them manually adjusted up for a few days and new they seem to be back down .. there is a very district show or line they blocks the light from shining up at all

US 211s have projectors whether halogen or xenon. Do you have halogens or xenons? Halogen have manual vertical adjustment, xenon are self adjusting.

There’s a gear drive between outer hi/low and inner high beam vertical adjustment. If the base setting of an outer isn’t correct, setting it level will shine inner on treetops.

These headlights have a distinct cutoff. They don’t shine above a horizon to avoid blinding oncoming traffic. Can take getting used to after DOT beams.
